Re: what game is most like the DCC RPG?
I'd describe it as a mashup of Moldvay/Cook D&D, 3rd edition D&D, and 2nd edition Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay.

Re: Module from Free RPG Day is available
To be clear: if you haven't pre-ordered, and if there were no Free RPG Day stores in your area, you can't get the PDF for free, right?

Re: occupation table and race
If your Level-Zero character is a Dwarf and he leveling up to 1st Level, he can choose the Dwarf or the non-racial Classes, yeah? He just can't pick Elf or Halfling. Similarly for Elves and Halflings, I think. I think it's been established elsewhere that if you roll any of the dwarf professions, an...

Re: Free RPG Day
My FLGS didn't paticipate in Free RPG day. I ended up making trek to a game store a little over an hour away. Still a little better than what happened to me, where my local shop was listed as participating on the Free RPG Day website, but when I actually went there this afternoon, they happily told...

Re: Gods of the Eternal Sruggle
I think the references to good and evil alignments are relics of an earlier iteration of the rules. Of course, I could be wrong.

Re: Demi-human classes...
Just as a reminder, these rules are a BETA. I've been playing this game regularly with a wide variety of people across the country for around 18 months...and all the rules are very clear in my head. Why can't you read my mind?? :) If I may, can I ask if there was ever a point when you considered no...

Re: Alignment: Different for Monsters and Characters?
I was able to playtest an earlier version of DCC a while back, and I clearly remember my wizard character being Lawful Evil, so I'd guess that the good/evil axis used to be in the game, and that such alignments for monsters were retained by mistake. Between the alignments and the available classes, ...

Re: Weapon Training (Page 16)
I respect that the game is meant to be played, though this hand waved rule also seemed strange. Though, what really is the point of weapon training? To prevent Mages and Thieves from using Two Handed Swords and Polearms and reflect a Diety's favored weapons? That seems to be the main consequences o...

Re: Percentage Thief Skills
So far the reaction to % skills in games has been love it / hate it...appears that everyone here hates it! Does ANYBODY like it? Just curious... Nope, nobody likes it. ;) At least, I don't. It's one of the things that jumped out at me as clunky thus far. (The other thing is halflings as dual-wieldi...

Re: Maps
Lovely work from Mr. Kovacs. This approach reminds me a bit of the maps that appeared in the old UK series of modules for AD&D. Very cool!

This is one of the things I like least about the way the class is usually played... but hey, that's just me.goodmangames wrote:"Sure, I'll heal you, but first let me tell you about the power of Gorhan..."

Re: Kill the Cleric?
I have to admit that the inclusion of the cleric surprised me when I got a chance to playtest DCC in New York a couple of months ago. It definitely seems like a "D&D fantasy" class to me, rather than a swords & sorcery/Appendix N class. (I know I'm not alone here.) I won't pretend ...

Re: What 4E classes do you want from Forgotten Heroes?
Okay, Jegenritz, you've re-sold me on the idea of the alchemist as a viable class. I still don't think it would be a martial controller (probably an arcane controller or mayyyybe striker), but you're off to a promising start here.

Re: What 4E classes do you want from Forgotten Heroes?
I'd say that the idea of an alchemist as martial controller doesn't make a ton of sense to me - alchemy is defined in 4e (in Adventurer's Vault) as a process in which "arcane ingredients are required". Sounds arcane to me. Besides, I'm not sure how viable it would be to have a guy whose at...

Re: What 4E classes do you want from Forgotten Heroes?
I'm assuming the assassin has already been done, or at least considered. I'd be potentially interested in seeing a cavalier, but I'm not sure how you'd differentiate it from a fighter or warlord. Maybe make a dedicated thief class, as opposed to the ninja-like class the rogue has become? It might be...
