Re: DCCRPG Blackmoor Dungeons Playtest at Gen Con 2011

Sorry not to have updated this sooner! I've been crazy busy helping create a new RPG - or more precisely, a second-wave retroclone, focused on creating a specific play experience rather than recreating a particular older edition - called the Adventurer Conqueror King System , or ACKS (prounounced &q...

Additional Designer's Blog: Feedback Shapes the DCC RPG

At the blog I contribute to, The Mule Abides, I have a post about my experiences as an early playtester for the DCC . The summary is that passionate amateur feedback has and I'm confident will continue to produce real, substantive, ongoing improvements in core design aspects of the DCC RPG system - ...

Re: Converting D&D mods

I've posted about some conversions:

AD&D / Castles and Crusades adventure run using DCC RPG rules

Paizo 3.5 adventure run using DCC RPG

The bottom line is that I found doing these easy, fun, and revealing about what I liked about the DCC RPG.

Re: Have your attitudes towards DCC RPG changed since Jan. 3

One of the things that really has me hooked, is that this is the first time I have ever playtested a game. I am not sure how much my contributions have changed the game, but I definitely feel a sense of ownership. My other experiences as a playtester have been entirely negative. You play the game w...

Thanks, Harley! Yes, a post on EN World would be great - I have it in my status there but could use some help getting it noticed!

Re: Any playtest games at the Dicehead SIEGE con in Chattano

Shucks, so (relatively) near and yet so far! I'd be glad for a referral to any gamers in the area you know online, or pointers to a forum where I could make contacts? My wife does an overseas meeting of the International Neuropsychological Society every summer and I like to tag along and meet local ...

Re: Any playtest games at the Dicehead SIEGE con in Chattano

Machpants, I'm going to be in and around Auckland in the middle of July. Google Maps says it's over eight hours' drive from Martinborough, but if you can make it I'll be glad to run a DCC RPG playtest for you and any other gamers you might know in the area! It would please me no end to have a play r...

Re: DCCRPG Blackmoor Dungeons Playtest at Gen Con 2011

Despite setting myself multiple reminders, I managed to forget to get an event submission in before the deadline. I'm still excited to run DCC RPG playtests in Blackmoor Dungeons, but it won't be on the event schedule. Instead, I'll work on finding a location where I can set up and play with whoever...

Re: Upcoming playtests of DCC RPG

I'm running another playtest in NYC the evening of this Friday the 11th - let me know if you're interested and in town! This time I'll be using the experience of running adventures written for other systems to do one of my own native to the DCC RPG, and am very psyched for it.

Re: Anonycon Playtest Report

One of the playtesters for our last NYC run wrote a little about it at his blog Dungeonskull Mountain : I think people who are writing the game off as yet another retroclone are going to be very surprised with the final product. Mechanically, DCC was satisfyingly wild, and felt like a strange (and w...

Re: Reading Appendix N

Good point on John the Balladeer being cleric-like. I'd love to see some more of that flavor come through in the class, especially finding/re-discovering rituals and having books that contain them, whether it's The Long-Lost Friend or some examples from history.

Re: Anonycon Playtest Report

I'm still working on the second part of the Anonycon posts - wanting to respond to one of the commenters there set me off on a long tangent about RPG system theory - but in the meantime I have a writeup of the latest playtest where we used a 3.5 adventure with the DCC RPG rules.

Re: DCCRPG Blackmoor Dungeons Playtest at Gen Con 2011

Hmm, that is a seriously tempting possibility Jim. The drawback of not being able to do standard con registration for an off-site event has to be balanced against the human engineering advantages of playing in a non-noisy place with ready access to food, bathrooms, smoke breaks, etc., which normally...

DCCRPG Blackmoor Dungeons Playtest at Gen Con 2011

At Gen Con this year, I've been planning to run two all-day-long, rotating-cast-of-players expeditions into the depths of Castle Blackmoor, the first-ever dungeon (as written up in Arneson's First Fantasy Campaign and modified by the events that have taken place there when I ran it at last year's Ge...

Re: Curious about the DCC RPG packaging

I see the d24 in those pics! Looks like the set I have, which did just fine. I did want a d30 for randomly generating supernatural entities, though, and am ashamed to say I don't own one.

Re: Curious about the DCC RPG packaging

I also would like to see an intro adventure bundled with the box set (or sketched in the text of the single rulebook, perhaps in no more detail than in the Holmes or Moldvay basic sets), and if not a GM screen then a set of reference sheets like in the OD&D White Box - including some for players...

Re: A plea for the upcoming DCC RPG....

At the Anonycon playtest I used the 3E SRD for the stats of monsters mentioned in the Castle of the Mad Archmage, and that worked fine, and also used the Castles & Crusades stats given in Castle Zagyg, and that also worked fine! But I'm with finarvyn about not sweating the details - in a megadun...
