Re: Books that should be in Appendix N

Personally, I think that That Hideous Strength is compelling. Do you think it fits in well with Appendix N? I personally think not, while Out of the Silent Planet and Perelandra feel Appendix N to me. I'm being hopelessly subjective here. I agree with you both. I found That Hideous Streng...

Languages

Good morning,

In the Beta rules one of the languages mentioned, in passing, is sphinx, veiled Egyptian. However, this language does not appear in the finished project.

I'm curious why? Egyptian hieroglyphics are certainly old school S&S.

Re: The Next Point of Business

How would a GM Screen work? There seems to be too many tables for a normal screen. . . . One needs only to examine the original AD&D DM Screens put out by TSR back in the early 80s to see how many tables can be at a game master's finger tips. Those screens was awesome! [And the were portrait, a...

Howdy Gwarh,

In the User Control Panel on the left hand side under "Options," select "Profile."

Under "Profile" select "Edit account settings." It is there that you can change your password.

Re: Appendix N type movies.

I keep wanting to type Raiders of the Lost Ark , but then I think you'll just think I'm crazy, and I'd be crazy to encourage you to think of me as I am... I think this totally qualifies. To be honest, I also think the 1990's Mummy movie fits in there too. Both have "modern" adventurers ge...

Re: Classic Modules

I've been running my group through the old Giants (G-series) modules. I don't bother to convert stuff in advance but "wing it" as we play. Most old school modules should be easy to run. G1 would be an especially spectacularly brutal funnel, wouldn't it? GnomeBoy, you're confusin...

Re: DM/1-player session: adventure advice

Ogrepuppy,

If you keep the NPC fighter idea and see fit to get that 1st level wizard a lowly wand of magic missiles with 20-odd charges, with a couple of healing potions, I'd say go all out!

Re: DM/1-player session: adventure advice

Why don't you use the Beacon at Enon Tor? http://tower.newcenturycomputers.net/temp/beacon.pdf Have your NPC fighter be a creation of Karthedon and thus a golem or zombie-like undead fighting machine. Your friend's magic-user could be an old apprentice of Karthedon and is returning to visit his form...

Re: More interested in the DCC release in April than D&DN

It's the business model that WotC uses that keeps me from becoming interested and returning to official D&D. I hate planned obsolescence. If a game is "all that" than why re-invent the game after three to five years? In twelve years WotC has produced 3.0, 3.5, and 4th editions. Sales w...

Re: A few questions

How do you create a character when a character of a current adventuring group dies? I'm assuming you don't create another bunch of '0' levellers. Our preferred method is to allow the player to create a new PC with the same experience points of the dead character. The player earned the XP and it kee...

I'm not aware of ever hearing the name of this band. The music, and I tried several on YouTube, remind me of cheesy '70s & '80s B-grade sci-fi/fantasy movies.

I think that depends upon whether you want the players to roll up new characters or not.
