Re: Question about recovering missile weapon ammunition

I just let them spend the time to recover 50% (round odd numbers in PCs favor) of the misses. No die roll required.

Re: Spell power progression scale

Having just read the article in Crawl! #1 ... it seems pretty straightforward as to how easy it is to create new spells and get the "power levels" right.

Re: Random encounters?

I guess if it's not really laid out as a specific suggestion in the adventure, you could do it any way you like. I keep a cumulative chance for random encounters each time I roll. So like.. first random encounter check, I roll d6 and on a 6 one happens, then on second check, I roll d6 and it happen...

Re: House Rule: Don't Fluck Up

Cool idea, but adds an extra level I don't need in my games. I subscribe to the old school approach I have always used since I started this hobby in '77 ... either you did it or you didn't - now live with the consequences. Using your examples, if one of my players wants to be sure that rope ain't go...

Re: Luck rules et all

Using Table 7-9 ... I consider all awards from the first entry to be "restorative", i.e. they can only bring you back up to your "normal" Luck score. No permanent increase is allowed, so 18 is the maximum and any awards that would push you over that number are ignored. I consider...

Re: Adding luck to thieves and halflings?

[SNIP] My personal approach is that 3-18 is the range of Ability Scores, based on that that's how it's presented in the front of the book. So if they get to an 18 Luck, they've maxed it out (baring supernatural intervention) and they can't gain more than that by Luck awards. My take as well for the...

Re: Two weapon fighting backstab

I'm playing a hafling burglar from Crawl fanzine #10. Haflings are able to use two weapon fighting and as a burglar he has backstab. Should the character get to use both attacks from two weapon fighting for a backstab? Yeah ... just checked out that Halfling Burglar - seems a bit much for my table....

Re: DC Luck Check vs. Roll Under Luck Check

My take is:

Luck Roll (with no listed DC) = Roll Luck or less

Luck Roll (with listed DC) = Roll equal to or more than DC

Any mention of "Luck modifier" or something along the lines of "roll Dx and modify by Luck" = Make the listed roll and apply Luck modifier

Re: Do you add luck to spellcasting?

(sorry, this has probably been answered, but search is hard) Under Characters->Wizard, it says "A wizard’s spell check is usually 1d20 + Intelligence modifier + caster level." Under Magic->Spellcasting it says "When your character casts a spell, you roll 1d20 and add your caster leve...

Re: Minor Birth Augurs for Luck 8-12

I've told this story several times, the point of which is to remove the stigma associated with Birth Augur....the stigma that says it must be of some mechanical benefit. [snip] Let go of the rules. Let go of the modifiers. Not everything is about mechanics. Yep, same advice I was giving back in '77...
