Re: DCC Halfling only class that's worse than Basic D&D source

Well, the ones I generated on Purple Sorceror seem to be generally in line with the 0-level characters I have rolled by hand. I cannot say I have rolled over a hundred by hand, but I did roll 20 by hand a few months back.

Re: DCC Halfling only class that's worse than Basic D&D source

Well to start with if the Halfling already has 16+ DEX it’s not much of an improvement at all; no other skill has it's effect reduced in this way. If you're generating characters as the book suggests, then how often are you going to have a halfling with 16+ Agility? Not very often at all! I just ra...

City Maps & Settings

Does anyone have a recommendation for a product that gives me maps of a city as well as descriptions of the buildings and such?
Does the Lankhmar product by Goodman Games provide that?

Re: Frequency of Mercurial Magic

If you want to do this there's an easier way. It seems like most people ignore this rule, but in the judges' section on magic, it describes how characters have to prepare a week and then make a spell check against DC10+spell level any time they attempt to learn any spell, including their starting s...

Re: Introductions Thread - Join the Band!

My name is Brent, and I live in the northern suburbs of Chicago. I have been an RPG player for over 30 years, but just got introduced to DCC. I love it! The flexibility and "rules light" flavor makes it my new game system of choice! which northern suburbs? Jim, I am in the Round Lake area...

Re: Frequency of Mercurial Magic

You bring up an excellent point. That may be a direction I will consider.

On another note, Jim, I see we are practically neighbors. You are in Crystal Lake. I am in Round Lake.

Re: Frequency of Mercurial Magic

I agree with both of you. I agree that MM is one of the awesomely unique things about DCC. As is often said about DCC, it's about RULINGS, not RULES. I have just found that, playing the MM rules as written, a wizard may find himself with a lot of spells he really doesn't want to use, due to all of t...

Re: Frequency of Mercurial Magic

No, not with each casting.
I know you are supposed to roll on the table each time a new spell is learned.
I am saying that with a result of 41-60, it is a very small margin for someone to learn a spell with no extra MM effects.

Frequency of Mercurial Magic

I get that magic is unstable and dangerous. But it seems like the range of "normal" results on the Mercurial Magic table is very slim. My thoughts would be this . . . Roll a d10. If the result of the roll is equal to or less than the level of the spell being learned, it incurs a Mercurial ...
