Re: DCC OWLCON 2016, Houston, Texas

My games are all full except for Ultimate Werewolf.

Judging by how quickly they filled up, we need more judges to run games in the future.

If you run 2 hour games for 6 people, you get a badge and a shirt for free. Consider it if you are in driving distance to Houston. This is a great con.

Re: Sailors of Starless Sea Player Handouts

That wasn't what I had in mind. I was thinking about giving them "mini-robes" (or pieces of cloth the size of a hand towel), but I like the idea of full size robes better. That would definitely make for good pictures.

Anyone else have suggestions?

Re: Darkest Dungeon has DCCRPG's soul!

While I agree that Darkest Dungeon could remind you of DCC in that it is hard and filled with death, I would hold that DCC isn't held to that theme - like in the case of the Purple Planet and the Chained Coffin.

Very fun though!

Re: Info from Past Road Crews

Thanks, I contacted Goodman Games and they are going to try to help me out for my first host.

They told me that they will be rolling out information soon, but be prepared to fill out a form (so, I'd email them earlier than later).

Sailors of Starless Sea Player Handouts

Hey all, <Spoilers to Sailors may be in this post! You have been warned> I started creating some player handouts for my con adventure in the City of Loneliness. I've written on small pieces of paper that I've aged and then rolled up into little scrolls for some of the scrolls that the players receiv...

Info from Past Road Crews

Hey all, I saw that Road Crew 2016 is being announced on the Goodman Games main page. I know that info is forthcoming, but I want to make sure I understand what the expectations have been in prior years. I'm running 2 games in the next few weeks and I just want to know what evidence and the like I n...

For those of you too lazy to click on a link, The King of the Crows is giving away a free adventure with a catch*. The catch expires in August 1, 2016. Catch: You must review one of Crowking's works* and post it on another website between now and the deadline. Follow the link and then post a link to...

Re: Racial features at 0 level

So, there are differences at level 0 as Catseye is pointing you to. In certain groups, I house-rule it so that level 0 PCs have 1 skill based on their profession. For the fighting classes, this is a d6 deed die which only triggers on a natural 6. For the alchemist and similar classes, I allow them t...

Re: Sailors on the Starless Sea endgame curveball (spoilers)

I agree with Crowking. The beastmen were, after all, conducting some type of ritual to the chaos gods. Surely, the gods in question would not allow this to end without some sort of ruckus. I think the cave collapsing in is a fair result and it still allows the players to utilize the escape routes du...

Re: Named Adventuring Groups / Bands

This post reminded me of the Taenarum game from Dreams in the Lich House: (http://dreamsinthelichhouse.blogspot.com/2015/03/game-3-cry-ref-cry.html) Gaming resumed with the party at the Adventurers Guild Hall, meeting the new recruits and confirming their membership in The Outlanders. The players le...

Re: Anyone make a flyer for this game?

Sure!

This took me about 15 minutes, so no trouble at all.

I made this with Inkscape (free), the official Goodman Games website's blurb about DCC (with a link), and some open source clip art that I modified. The rest, I just free handed.

Re: Home Game 1

This game ... has a little less "player choice" when it comes to player design. Another way to put that is that is has *more* choice, because you're limited by imagination not how many feats, etc. are in the book(s). Yeah, this is what I meant, but stated more eloquently. I'd rather creat...

Re: Hidden things

Oh, DSA. I once played using 3rd edition rules I think. The skill checks and the magic system were interesting. Back on topic... What I do depends on how specific the players are. "I search the body." - I roll if they find it or not. "I search the boots." - They find it automati...

Re: Luck question

I'm more curious and confused now. Let me try another question: Why is there a roll low check, for anything? Hitting a DC is pretty much a simple die roll. Your attribute doesn't actually matter too much. Using a Roll Under and giving it gradations of success/failure can tease out some differences ...

Re: Print and PDF from Store

Sebacore, When I bought some games directly from Goodman Games, they sent me a link to the PDFs in my email. Now, they never explicitly said that I would receive PDF copies with my purchase, but I got them all the same. I am unaware if this was a special promotion or if this is their modus operandi....

Re: Overpowered Cleric in Adventure

A 5th level cleric with only 15 hp? That low Agility didn't become a liability? I utilized Tatterdamalion's tampering on Purple Sorcerer's Upper Level Character Generator with reroll 1's selected, so no mistakes there. I tried to choose a cleric among the results that had good cleric slants but not...

Re: Overpowered Cleric in Adventure

Like others, my first thought is "are you doing Disapproval right?". I know I had it wrong when I first started messing around with the game... Any failed casting adds to the Disapproval range. First failure = Disapproval happens with any 1 or 2 on a Spellcheck that follows. Next time a c...

Re: Overpowered Cleric in Adventure

Turn to page 358 of the core rules, read the section titled Magic Here and Magic There, and remember that adjustments to magic need not always help the casters. If you have In the Prison of the Squid Sorcerer , my adventure, Icon of the Blood Goddess , contains an example of how using magic indiscr...

Re: Home Game 1

There are some definite differences between DCC and 5E. This game moves faster, for sure, and has a little less "player choice" when it comes to player design. Now, to me, that isn't a bad thing. I'm not a big believer that there should be thousands of skills, feats, spells, and classes to...

Hey all, I will be running Sailors of the Starless Sea on Friday February 19th from 8pm to midnight as part of OwlCon for President 2016 in Houston, Texas. I will also be running a mid-level adventure of my own design sometime on Saturday or Sunday of that week (I'll update this when I know what tim...

Overpowered Cleric in Adventure

Judges, I need some assistance tweaking my adventure to allow the adventure to not solely star a cleric. I was testing my OwlCon adventure with some family this past weekend and the 5th level cleric in the group was on fire, turning, banishing, and bolting from the blue like no one's business. In fa...

Re: How to Handle Wilderness, Water, Rations, and Survival

Gnomeboy, Yeah, that mechanic is awesome. I like it a lot. I am imagining the LoTR with the Lampas bread. So, they had plenty of rations, but due to overeating, accidental mishaps (falling into water, running away from orcs, etc.), and maybe even intentional tampering (Gollum) they ran out and began...
