Re: Experience points and luck
I do the same thing GnomeBoy does. If an encounter was really easy for my players, either through lucky rolls or good planning, I don't give them much XP, no matter how hard the encounter was supposed to be in theory. But if they bleed for it, yeah, I'm going to award them more. Yeah, it means 5 ske...

Is Age of Cthulhu a separate RPG? If so, how is it different from Call of Cthulhu?

Looks like a money laundering scheme.

Re: Mighty Deeds of Arms: Outnumbered, Riposte
This is really good stuff! It's a shame that so many players don't take full advantage of the Mighty Deeds rule. It's such rife ground for imaginative ideas.

This seems like a lot of fun. You should submit it for the 2016 Gongfarmer's Almanac.

Re: The Keep on the Borderlands and the Caves of Chaos, dcc
I'm running my PCs through The Temple of Elemental Evil right now. Let me tell you, those classic modules, they're boring and repetitive. Open the door, fight the monsters, loot the room, repeat. I've had to significantly punch up the encounters to keep my players from falling asleep. The good news ...

Re: Get Yer Gongfarmer's Almanac (Vols 1-6) Right HERE
My group got together this Sunday over Google Hangouts and I decided to give "The Umber Woods" a whirl. Rolled "Retrieval Mission" and the "heavily overgrown caravan." Using some quick Judge skills I interpreted that to mean that the party's elf was having a favor calle...

Re: Mighty Deed of Arms: Taunt
What about affecting multiple enemies. I have a player that uses taunting to get everyone to attack him (tanking at AC 22) thus allowing the other characters to attack risk free. The system I cam up with is that he has a base chance on his deed die of 3. That will taunt one opponent. For each score ...

Re: Get Yer Gongfarmer's Almanac (Vols 1-6) Right HERE
Got mine a day earlier than expected. GnomeBoy wasn't lying, there's definitely a nice little bonus in here. Given the nature of it, I think I'm going to play this one close to my chest. But I think my players will find out this Sunday...

Re: DCC Halfling only class that's worse than Basic D&D sour
Definitely a support character and a substitute thief with limited use. Our party halfling tends to burn luck for every roll that other players miss. I've noticed that when she's not around it is a LOT easier for me to kill PCs and screw over the party. But I agree with the OP, they do seem a little...

1984. I was 6 years old. I played an elf in a game a local kid was running from the Mentzer Basic D&D Red Box. I was killed by a giant spider. I didn't play again until I was 10, this time as the DM, also from the Red Box edition. I went to my first con when I was 12 and was exposed to Paranoia,...

I've been doing the same thing, by hand, no fancy mapping tools. Not because I have anything against them but because I don't know of any. I tend to just update the map as my players explore it. I have no idea what it will look like when it's finished.

Re: Running Temple of Elemental Evil (1985) for DCC
Licking their wounds the party has retreated back to Hirot for some much needed rest. They returned to the Temple and found their way into the temple proper. Finding nothing of interest they descended to dungeon level 1. More cautious this time, they were able to surprise a group of ghouls. The adva...

Re: Running Temple of Elemental Evil (1985) for DCC
The party has made its way into the temple proper via a secret hatch in the guard tower and into level 3. The PCs were not quite up to the challenge at level 1 & 2. They made it past the illusionary Basilisk but barely made it out alive against Falrinth & Smigmal Redhand. They were ultimatel...

Re: Looking for GM for Live Stream DCC
I'm actually pretty interested in running a Castle Gargantua campaign but my weekly Sunday players are way too focused on conquering the Temple of Elemental Evil (1985 version). I'm free on Mondays but I'm in the PST timezone. It's OK, I work from home on Tuesdays. Are we married to Skype or is Goog...
