Re: RAW
Well, I don't want to get bogged down by details right now, I am asking for principles and opinions based on people's judging styles. When I have a second revision of this project to offer up for suggestions, that woiuld be a good time to talk about the details of my intentions and goals. Basically...

Re: Advice needed: school club with variable attendance
I would suggest one of the following approaches: 1. Design your adventures so they can be completed in one session. Variable attendance immediately becomes a more or less non-issue. 2. Swap out players without any explanation whatsoever. You can tack on some sort of "mists" or other magica...

Re: RAW
It would be easier to give you a practical response if you (the OP) could give examples of the sort of situations you want to resolve with rules crunch, but are getting feedback saying that is bad/wrong.

I didn't register for any events this year, although I am running 16 hours of various things. I'm hoping to squeeze into events when they start or else live in the open gaming area.

Re: Sailors of Starless Sea Player Handouts
I like the idea of having the players wear white t-shirts so you can tell who is disguised in the robes. I imagine some players might be a little skeeved out by the prospect of wearing used clothes that someone else has worn. You should probably tell people you bought them new for this purpose and j...

Rival Adventuring Parties
My DCC RPG campaign is officially kicking off tomorrow night. One of the elements the players will be dealing with initially is the presence of rival adventuring parties in the immediate vicinity. I keep starting to create the classed NPCs only to kick myself because I can just treat them as 1 or 2 ...

Re: Sailors on the Starless Sea endgame curveball (spoilers)
I don't have the module in front of me, but as I recall the text says the summoning ritual is already underway when the PCs arrive. In a situation like yours (where the PCs interrupt the ritual completely so that the chaos lord is not summoned), I would have no problem ruling that the failure to com...

Re: Leveling up during or after Sailors?
I've run it 3 times and did not level until after on each occasion. I had really smart and successful players the first time. The 2nd and 3rd times were blood baths (we had 20+ PC deaths the 3rd time) -- I was basically shoving new character sheets at the players after each encounter the last two ti...

It's hard to tell from your post what is at the root of the problem. Personally, I've been impressed with 5E when I've dabbled in it. It is what it is. I suspect a lot of the frustration for you and/or your group comes from running the Dragon Queen materials. It is a gigantic, long-as-hell railroad....

Re: Do you own specialty dice (d5, d7, d14, etc)?
If you don't own or use the specialty dice (d5, d7, d14, d18, d24), what method do you use to make those dice rolls? For the d5, I would roll a d10 and... 1,2 = 1 3,4 = 2 5,6 = 3 7,8 = 4 9,10 = 5 For the d7, I would roll a d8 and reroll 8s. For a d14, I would roll a d8 and a d6. This translates to:...

Re: Steel & Fury (Purple Duck Games) is available now!
There is if you buy the PDF, print it out, and have it bound. I know that sounds like a smart-ass response, but I made it because printing it out and getting it spiral bound results in a great hard copy (and not too expensive, either).Weisenwolf wrote:Is there a hard copy of this product?

Re: The Style Guide
On the gender issue, I strongly recommend sticking with a single gender for something like a spell description. Switching gender in the middle of something that focused would only confuse the reader. Generally speaking, I don't think you have to stick to one gender for an entire chapter. I'd conside...

I'm struggling to read the new Sailors digest version, too. The print is tiny ! I like the idea of digest-sized books (I really like my digest-sized C&C books, for example), but the digest Sailors is too hardcore for me. I'm going to stick with regular-sized DCC modules going forward. I ended u...
