Re: Character Literacy
I think the assumption that the number of languages a character speaks is related to intelligence is a larger problem. There are plenty of multi-lingual idiots and plenty of clever monolinguists; it makes no sense at all.

Re: Thief table 1-9 Reimagined
This has already been tackled in 'Mt thief my way' by Colin Chapman in the Crawl Fanzine 10. It's easy to then create your own sub classes of thief from there.

I would allow it otherwise what use is a D10 when you usually need 12+ ?
I would allow it for any character; not just the Thief for the same reason

Re: Newbie Question concerning Spellcasting
Yes 3+ the patron spells for the Elf and 4 for the Wizard and if one of those is a patron spell he gets the other patron spell too. In both cases Intelligence modifies this. Just to be clear, for the sake of newbie-ness: When Weisenwolf says "patron spells", that's specifically Invoke Pat...

Re: "Advanced" Dungeon Crawl Classics
Thats why I put the caveat in my original post Weisenwolf. I know that the charm of DCC is its inherent simplicity, but I also agree with Ravenheart that more options doesn't have to mean more complexity, and even when it does, some people do enjoy that. I think a lot of us that played OD&D, Ba...

Re: Advancement
1. I generally don't allow level up during a scenario; I want the players concentrating on the game not on whether they are about to hit an artificial plateau (Is that spelt right.....doesn't look right......) 2. I'm with the stable idea, it may be that one player has 4 characters survive the funnel...

Re: Stomp the typo / Errata & FAQ
Under the Halfling description it mentions characters being drawn from Traders and N'er do wells. This was reflected in the 0 level occupation chart of the Beta rules but by the time it came to print the 0 level occupation chart had been populated with Haberdashers, glove makers and so on. Does the ...

Re: Luck Regenration
I like to have a defined reason for doing so such as: KARMA - Character does something purely for it's roll playing merits rather than profit. Ideally in fact at a material loss 8) The RUNT rule - Players who cheerfully roll play the character with hopeless stats without complaining about it tend to...

Re: "Advanced" Dungeon Crawl Classics
My difficulty with this thread is that part of the charm of DCC is the fact that it isn't AD&D and I can think of few changes in that direction that will add more to the game than they take away. Advanced=complicated but not better and it will almost certainly mean the delicate balance of the ga...

Re: Playing without the "stupid" dice
I like them but you don't have to do much to avoid them. Instead of going up or down the dice chain in combat use the modifiers from the Beta rules which don't do that. Change the D14 'Sword & Board' and the D16 Halfling twin weapons thing to perhaps D12+1 (or 2) and D20-2. Subdual damage can be...

this game is excellent; makes me feel like I did all those years ago with basic D&D (better actually; no acne now )
Hope you enjoy it and best of luck with your immigration department

Re: "Advanced" Dungeon Crawl Classics
Hi all, I believe that for most of the people that gravitate towards the DCC RPG, one of the appeals of the game is that it is fairly simple and straightforward (freeing up the Judge and players to get on with gaming), and that in posing this question, quite a few responses to this topic could easi...

Re: 20's and 1's
That's interesting: I noticed this issue too & though about increasing the threat range for each die up the chain, 23-24 for D24 28-30 for D30
I think I prefer your system, it's easy to remember, all natural rolls of 20, 24 or 30 are critical hits
Nice (in the correct sense of the word)

Re: Transdimensional Bag
I like the idea of something like Nakor's bag in the Feist novels, it's a gate which in this case leads to the storage bin in an Orange grove, an endless supply of Oranges :D The other end of the gate could be under the characters bed back home; could even make the 'Gate' a spell effect with better ...
