Re: Cleric-less Parties: How to keep them alive?
Just make the field dressings that heal 1d4 hp from SotSS fairly readily available in towns. With these I also allow an optional skill roll where: 1: 1d4 damage plus 1d4 on crit table 1 2 - 4: 1d4 damage 5 - 9: heal 1d4 hp 10 - 14: heal 1d6 hp 15 - 19: heal 1d8 hp 20: heal 1d8 + 4 hp Of course, the ...

Re: Getting Players to Buy Books/Dice
I guess you can all me 'modern' then because I see no reason anyone but he GM needs to own the book.....
Everyone has their pet system, If I was expected to buy the books for every game my group plays I would be BROKE.

Re: 1st level Cleric spells
There is lots of information about things ALL clerics can do (lay on hands and turn unholy) - but I don't think this is addressed.
I had the player roll them randomly (I think there is a table for this) and also gave him a unique ability related to the patron/deity.

Re: Abuse of Runic Alphabet
Spellburn of 20 points for ANY reason ought to have serious consequences. I wouldn't allow contuous rest in between adventures for more than a few days. That means he is going to be crippled for a long while. Also, perhaps some rival magic users sense this disturbance in the ether and start hunting ...

Re: Brave Halfling Publishing...what gives? Never buy again.
Don't forget that with services like Kickstarter, if the project falls through amazon still takes their cut. So, you really _can't_ refund everything to the backers. Honestly, I think the OSR would be best off using a p500 style system a la GMT and MMP wargame companies or along the lines that Mich...

Re: Tinkering with the halfling
I would avoid trying to use 'human' races as it can be a minefield....
I would assume everyone is human and rename the other classes as follows:
Halfling || Rogue
Dwarf || Soldier
Elf || Adept

Re: Savage Kings Sylle Ru question
DCC enemies are not supposed to have to conform to the same rules as the PC's. Right in the monster section it says bad guys could well have abilities the players simply cannot have (or that work differently in their hands). Its all about making it easier for you. The players don't KNOW that the spe...

Re: Alternate Barbarian
Firstly - I am actually not a fan of Barbarian as a class. It seems to make more sense for me as an occupation in the context of DCC RPG. With that said - here is how I would do it as a class, with the goal of providing interesting choices without being overpowered: Barabarian HD = 1d12 per CL Lucky...

Re: DCC boxed set?
I would want a boxed ANYTHING to have a damn good reason to be in a box. Unless it contains things like a cloth map, cardboard miniatures, battlemat, GM screen, dice, etc. etc. I just don't see the point. Print digest sized paperbacks and put them in a box? Why? Personally I really like the 'one tom...

Re: Brave Halfling Publishing...what gives? Never buy again.
I haven't been waiting around since the kickstarter - but I HAVE been waiting months for an annual sub order. My only comment on this is that he seems like a decent guy and I am glad he is being open about what is going on. He didn't have to share the intimate personal details of his life, and could...

Re: Please don't kill the dumb guy... question about Hit Dic
This came up in another thread a while ago - I read the hp per hit die as a modifier (like stamina modifier).
So roll the HD and add x HP per hit die same as if it was a stamina modifier. This seems to produce the HP totals more like I would expect too

Re: On line DCC
I highly recommend google plus.
You can see who is talking, the voice quality is better, and you can share things (like maps).
There is a roll20 add-in that basically does the job of a battle mat and minis - although I havent used that bit.

Making the Dwarf more unique
For me Dwarves are more about flavour than anything - I have no problem with them RAW. Dwarves have always been "basically fighters but different" as far as I am concerned in most D&D and fiction generally. What I LIKE to do is really play up the cultural and social aspects - the fact ...

Re: multi-classing
Oh yeah luck..... that could be game breaking - I mean, who is going to NOT take a thief level?
I think it could work OK with smaller player groups who don't want to run multiple PC's each.
And thanks for the link! I might try and test both approaches out and see how it goes....

Re: 5th Level Wizard Spells DCs - Error?
You might be right - as written in the tables (regular cover, second printing), 5th level Wizard spells are no harder to cast than 4th. Wizards do need to be 9th level to even cast them anyway so I doubt it will affect many games. If I had characters in my game getting close I would definitely consi...

multi-classing
Does anyone allow multi-classing? Due to the experience curve being aligned for all classes, the randomness of characters stats, and the focus on lower level play it seems to me like it could actually work.... I'm thinking it could be as simple as allowing players to choose what class they level as ...

Re: Spell Checks as Save DCs
So he has rolled 18 INT, a +1 luck mod, spell checks as birth auger, AND rolled an elf?? Firstly I just want to say that if this was all rolled legit then they are extremely lucky - that is a lot of stacked bonuses in an extremely rare combination (albeit you CAN simply pick an occupation RAW). As f...

Re: Sailors on the Starless Sea Help
As far as realistic training... unless there is some time between the end of the funnel and the leveling up to allow for it, then it can strain credulity for some players. FWIW I too find that it is the warrior training that is most difficult to justify/explain to the satisfaction of players or mys...

Re: Halflings and luck
I believe it is referring to the modifier that results from burning luck - not to the halflings base modifier.
Think about it - after burning a few points of luck his lowered modifier would start to NEGATIVELY affect everybodies rolls.
I'm sure this is not the intention.

Re: Sailors on the Starless Sea Help
This will sound like heresy but hear me out. Just leave out the leviathan. Either just the monster (they cross the starless sea unhindered) or the entire starless sea area, lets say going downstairs from the keep just takes you down into hallway that leads to a big tiered sacrificial chamber (the la...
