Re: Why is Cthulhu Neutral?

It is conceivable that Cthulhu is Neutral, while his cult members are whatever they have become... And may not even be consistent with each other. Totally! I think it's a fun exercise to try to get into the mind of a cultist, why they might join a Mythos cult... how it might be sold to them by othe...

Re: super secret project/gary con

1) Luck is the new black. It's everything. It is a luck-based mechanic that replaces clerical healing. Luck flows fast and loose to the point where there is a carousing mechanic for getting luck back...for all classes. I'm not so much liking the sound of that. Too much like Bennies in Savage Worlds...

Re: Reader's guide to Lankhmar fiction

I first read them back in the 1970's and they were a heavy influence on the way my OD&D campaigns developed back then. Yeah, way more than Tolkien it's the Lankhmar stories that I associate with early D&D... discovering both at the same time from the same family of 5 brothers (and 1 poor an...

Re: super secret project/gary con

I'm excited about the mention of non-supernatural Patrons... Patrons for non-magic user classes. That's an idea that's been brewing for a while.
Has that been implemented elsewhere and I'm just ignorant of it?

Re: super secret project/gary con

I'm not too surprised. Lanhkmar seems like such a good fit for DCC.

Also nostalgic for me since Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser were introduced to me by the same guys who first invited me to play D&D, so I've always associated those stories with my early RPG adventures.

I'm favoring some manner of science fantasy... Purple Planet already aimed at ersatz-Barsoom/ Sword and Planet... Mutant Crawl Classics aimed at PA... something in the Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon vein would have my pulse jumping.

Lots of scifi writers in Appendix N... Fred Saberhagen, Poul Anderson, Jack Williamson, Leigh Brackett, Fletcher Pratt... but not Heinlein.

Re: super secret project/gary con

So tomorrow is the big news? "a top-secret license that will delight every fan of DCC RPG and Appendix N" Looking over Appendix N, ruling out the taken/unlikely stuff... I'd be most excited for stuff relating to Abraham Merritt or Lord Dunsany but those wouldn't require a license as such.....

Re: Cyberpunk / Hard Sci-Fi hack of DCC?

As someone who really enjoys Eclipse Phase and Traveller (classic) I'm not sure what you see in DCC that makes you think it would improve on those for 'hard scifi'. I mean, I love DCC to death but that's because of how wild and crazy it can get, surprising and unexpected stuff happening from moment ...

Rituals

Have there been any rituals written up for DCC? I mean, beyond ritual versions of regular spells... magic that can ONLY be accomplished by a group of mages/clerics with time and resources? I've looked around and haven't found anything. I know nothing of 4e but Azagar's Book of Rituals http://www.goo...

Re: Play experiences of wizards...

I'll dredge up this old thread to see if there are any new thoughts on the matter... My favorite thing about DCC is that the magic feels more 'magical'... it's not just another form of technology as it seems to be in many other fantasy games. I don't mind the limited 'spell slots'... but as has been...

Re: DCC Annual: Content Wish List

The names 'Monk' and 'Druid' both seem inherently connected to temples/religions/cults to me. Otherwise a 'Monk' is just a 'Boxer'/'Martial Artist' and might as well be a variant of 'Warrior'/'Fighter'. I particularly like the description of Druids here: http://goblinpunch.blogspot.com/2014/09/7-myt...

And you know what we don't see enough of? FUNGUS AND OOZES AND SLIMES AND GELATINOUS CUBES AND STUFF. You know in a corrupted dying world dungeon environment this stuff would be all over the place, right? Right. Can't wait to sic the Purple Mold on the party. I'm not entirely clear on the differenc...

Re: DCC Annual: Content Wish List

I disagree on some of the class stuff. I do think there is a jumping the shark that can happen with classes but I don't think the line is at monk, bard, or druid. Monks and Druids just seem like variants of Cleric to me. Add a few more spells and pick the right mix to suit the theme. I've never und...

Re: Multiple characters and Roleplaying?

I've always liked the idea of troupe style play... having more than one PC on the roster per Player. I wouldn't be adverse to letting Players keep whatever PCs they could get through a funnel as a kind of stable and pick between them depending on the adventure... knowing that they'd only be gaining ...

Re: Patron Problems- The Three Fates

Gnomeboy's solution seems clever and flavorful... and sets up future complications/consequences.
Dropping/changing the Patron seems less satisfying... a more mechanical reply to the situation that doesn't bring the same sort of fun that having a pair of magically connected twins does.

I'd also like some content about using Patrons with other classes... how they might aid Fighters and such... the costs of such relationships, how Patron taint works on Thieves, etc.

... that Age of Cthulhu adventures are for Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu! DOH! Up until just moments ago I'd been assuming they were either D20 or some other system of their own. Not that it should matter, I steal ideas from Trail of Cthulhu adventures all the time, but my assumptions had me thinking t...

Re: DCC Annual: Content Wish List

1) No proliferation of AD&D classes (Bard, Ranger, Monk) 2) No additional class options for non-humans Yeah, those would top my 'Do Not Want' list. One of the things I despise about mainstream D&D is the bloat of classes, more classes, multi-classes... blech! I'd definitely jump at more spe...

Couldn't the one who isn't 'burning just close her eyes? After a shouted warning?
Maybe they wear special blinders (magic glasses that render each other invisible) or always stand back to back when spellcasting?

@NJPDX You make good points. I guess I don't understand the desire to always play the same game, same sorts of games. Video gamers and boardgamers I know generally like to mix it up and try a lot of different games... but most RPGers I know are very stubborn about trying new things. And it's not lik...
