Re: Shield Maiden

Something to think about, and that much I have done. I think further renditions of this spell will utilize a summoned being that mirrors the heart and soul of the caster. And as it stands in my current campaign the caster will relish the slave to which he is bequeathed by the devil that is patron to...

Shield Maiden

Here is a spell that has an interesting story to tell... and some explaining to do. :) The general information provides that Sezrekan discovered a tomb of warrior maidens and struck a pack with the spirits permitting him to summon each of them once. (This seems peculiar, under what condition would a...

Re: The Low End of the Dice Chain

No need to construct 'partial' dice, merely use the d100 and roll based on the target probability.

Re: Phylactery of the Soul

Thanks for your input. I too think some variation should be involved, and that Luck should remain a deeper cosmic connection untouched by the ritual of the soul phylactery. I am now self possessed of the belief that the stats that represent the physical body should be that of the host. Yet, the meta...

Re: Sense & Sensibility & Wizards

Thanks for your input. Yes I suppose a simple Int check vs a DC works, with the added bonus of a modifier equal to level... But the DC would have to be pretty high, since it allows the Wizard to side step the dangers and added difficulty of casting the spell Detect Magic . ( Even if they are only gl...

Phylactery of the Soul

Through the use of this spell does the Wizard gain the hit die of the body he inhabits, or does he retain his class die as he levels? Furthermore, if he then 'dies', (thereupon returning in soul to the phylactery) does his familiar unbind, or is it tied to the Wizard's soul?

Sense & Sensibility & Wizards

How do you handle magic sense in your game? Can a wizard only sense Magic if they have access to and then successfully cast Detect Magic , or is there something innate in the Wizard that might have a chance at doing this (as long as the player exclaims the intent to 'sense magic', that is) such as t...

Re: How much luck do you throw around?

I find that players rely on Thieves and Halflings for all things Luck in the game. As a judge I regard the LUCK score much like fate, (i.e. fate points in wfrp), so I would only award a Luck bonus for really significant parts of player progression and portrayal. See http://www.goodman-games.com/foru...

Re: Tracking time and random encounters?

If necessary I use a separate print-out to track time, and provide my players with torch and lantern cards, to track the amount of time remaining on the use of those items. For random encounters I decide a base chance, such as 1 in 6 on a d6 for every 10 minutes while underground, unless the charact...

Re: Best monster, treasure books to supplement DCC with?

The DCC rule book instructs us to use existing D&D books for Treasure and Monster info; which books do you guys find are best for this purpose and most innately compatible with DCC? I assume anything third or fourth edition D&D is out due to feats and powers, which leaves 1st, 2nd, and 5th ...

Re: How Different are the 3pp Barbarian classes?

As the writer for that class, it would not be assuming to expect a conflict of impartiality, however I remain quite proud of the work I did, and as far as Barbarians in DCC, it is my belief that the D.A.M.N. edition sets the bench mark from which all further barbarian classes shall be measured. :)

Re: New wizards and spells

I am really intrigued by the idea of the young wizard who has had secrets of the arcane among his possessions all along, only to ascend in consciousness and reveal that which was always there. I think that is a really great way to integrate spell knowledge with the player character. Admittedly, the ...

Re: Fantasy miniatures for DCC

What size are your human figures exactly? I have never had any trouble with scale from this company. Though there are other companies which I would cast my ward against. I own many of the other Halflings by Reaper, and I find them all to be perfectly scaled. I would imagine this figure would be suit...

Would this work for you? If so, I'd like to introduce you to Dar Dimplefoot (#02099) he is $3.99 The nice thing about Reaper is that they offer a line called Bones, which are about half the normal costs.

Re: A question of Magic at 0 level

I typically wouldn't allow a player to cast spells at 0 level. Characters have their occupational skills, trade tools, and random equipment to rely on, but do not possess a class. If there was an exception to this rule I should think it might revolve around an item, such as an arcane scroll, talisma...

Re: Acheivements?

Oooh, that looks pretty cool. Would it be something that you keep to yourself as Judge, and award when PCs inadvertently achieve them, or would you show the players so that they can 'compete' to get one of them? Thank you BT. To answer your question, I keep the details of such things to myself. PCs...
