Research on Tabletop RPGs, including DCC RPG
Hey, people. This is Edgar Johnson (I wrote the Blood for the Serpent King bonus adventure in Harley's latest, Bride of the Black Manse). Anyway, I'm doing a research project as part of my day job (professor at Georgia Regents University), and wanted to request that the members of the forum consider...

3.5 to DCC Character Level Conversion
I'm getting ready to start up a DCC campaign using the Wilderlands of High Fantasy setting. I'm going to tweak it quite a bit to make it a bit more R. E. Howardish and low-fantasy. However, it might be nice to have some NPCs to work with, and possibly the ones already in the supplement. That means, ...

Re: Crawl! New Class Challenge: RANGER!
I still think the Ranger class could be developed pretty simply within the existing fighter class, as has been said by others. The key is to really work that zero-level background into character development. This might be a reason just to allow the player to pick character background. So, he's a hun...

Re: What do you use for a campaign?
I have been torn between using the Campaign map for "City State of the Invincible Overlord" from Judges Guild and then branching out into the rest of the Wilderlands if it comes to that. Or using the Map of Miniaria from the Divine Right board game. One thing about using someone else's wo...

Re: Great Gen Con Dice Off
So, to paraphrase Pulp Fiction, I carried this uncomfortable hunk of plastic (my d24) around in my pocket for 3 days on the chance I might run into Harley for the Dice Off. Earlier tonight (Saturday), just when I was convinced it wasn't going to happen I turn a corner on the way back to the room fo...

Re: What miniatures are good for 0-level play?
Yeah, I contributed another $100 to the Reaper Kickstarter. Ridiculous amount of stuff for that level of support.
I'm not even worried that I won't paint them. I always intend to, but never actually do it. They still do the job for gameplay, in the end.

Re: How Far Ahead Do You Plan Your Campaign?
This is a fascinating thread. It's been a while since I've mapped out a fantasy campaign, but I've been doing a lot of stuff with other games, mostly Warhammer 40k Dark Heresy RPG. That game has the advantage (but also limitation) of an exhaustively predefined campaign world. This can constrain thin...

I'm in! Only 19 hours left. I hope it makes $4,000, but that's going to take some doing.

Re: ConstantCon on Google+
Yeah, lack of a mic would hurt! Google+ Hangouts has worked out pretty well for the games I have run. In fact we've had minimal difficultly with the Hangouts interface itself. It should be compatible with any browser, but I think I (and most of my players) prefer using either Chrome or Firefox for ...

Re: ConstantCon on Google+
I ran several one-shots of DCC RPG on Google+ Hangouts over the past two months. None of them were constantcon or Flailsnails games though. There is also http://www.ua-lc.com/ which puts up the occasional DCC RPG game as well. I am not sure how much I would worry about a good webcam. I know I would...

ConstantCon on Google+
I'm not ready yet, but at some point I might want to try to run a game in the ConstantCon/FLAILSNAILS mode, via Google+ hangouts. More details here: http://constantcon.blogspot.com/p/what-is-constantcon.html More or less, I'm playing with a regular group, about every other Saturday. We're playing Da...

My name is Edgar, and I'm 43 years old. I'm a professor (rhetoric an media studies) at a large state school in Georgia (USA). I like to spend a lot of my time at home, in solitary pursuits of various sorts, but I also like hanging out with The Wife and The Daughter, watching movies or TV, or playing...

Re: Max Spell Level & Learning New Spells
I'm a bit confused about how Table 1-1 (Ability Scores) and Table 1-12 relate to each other, as both include Max Spell Level entries. Based one what I've read so far in this thread, I'm guessing that Table 1-12 tells us what the max spell level is that one can learn at a particular experience level ...
