Re: Dragon Hit Points

The scariest thing about DCC dragons isn't their HP, it's that their breath weapon deals damage equal to their hitpoints. I rolled up a random dragon last year that did something like 93 damage with a breath attack. Half on a failed save. I haven't seen a PC yet that would survive even a successful ...

Re: Ability Scores at 2, 1 and 0

I ran into this last week, when a party member was dropped to 0 agility after several asp bites. Borrowing from 3rd edition D&D, I ruled that they were incapacitated and that further damage impacted their stamina. I had a question about the cleric lay hands ability though. For 3 dice, lay hands ...

Re: Who needs Read Magic?

I use it in my games as a means to decipher any magical glyph or rune found in the mythical underworld. Especially for things like magical gateways or strange glyphs surrounding geometric patterns etched into floors. Magical Decoder ring is a good nickname for the spell. Though you (the judge) have ...

Re: Halfling Lucky Charms

I notice in my games the more we play the more amazing the lucky halfling becomes. Throwing his bonus on allied saving throws, spell checks, and recently to damage rolls. The halfling is becoming more important to party survival than the cleric.

Re: Magic Wand

Awesome spell! I was inspired to come up with a list of unique abilities that could be added to the wands. There are some wand augments as well as separate abilities. Abyssal Fear: The user is surrounded by a shadowy force of living sentient horror. This fear force persists for CL in rounds. Anyone ...

Re: How about some alternate classes

I'm thinking of the following changes: Pathfinder: Bonus equal to 1/2 level +2 in wilderness areas. Sneak and Hide as a thief (uncontested) only in wilderness areas: Forests, plains, , swamps, mountains, and caves. In dungeons and urban areas they are contested as others. Favored Enemies: Deed die s...

Re: Wizards, Known Spells, & Spellbooks

I like the idea of wizards questing for power and seeking to loot the spoils of magic from other wizards. Even though it's a house rule, I allow wizards to cast spells from captured sources of magic (IE, from a spellbook taken from another wizard) at a die step penalty. These spells have mercurial m...

Re: Surprise

In my games we determine surprise based on the circumstance. If it comes down to a roll a d10 and a 1-3 is a surprise, adjusted by on the fly modifiers. Usually though surprise is easy enough to determine without a roll. Also we use d6 group initiative. Rolled each round. I have all the PC's initiat...

Re: How about some alternate classes

My biggest issue is that they are nearly as good in a dungeon setting as the wilderness. I agree that a Ranger shouldn't be as good at the sneaky stuff in a dungeon or urban setting as he would be in a wilderness environment. That should be mentioned in the write-up somewhere. I was kind of wanting...

Re: Introductions Thread - Join the Band!

Hello, my name is Ryan and I have been playing role playing games for most of my life. Long before ever owning a book, when I was about seven years old, I had a sleepover at a friend's house who had an older brother that had played Dungeons and Dragons at summer camp that year. We had no rules or bo...

Re: Guidelines for monster creation

When I create monsters I think about the level of a challenge I want to provide in the fight. A single creature with a lot of hp is more likely to stand up to an assault by a mob of PCs. However if these creatures are in a group then I want to spread out the hit points as they will be more of a chal...
