Re: Iconic monsters
My guess is that a higher-level "iconic" monster should do something you don't expect, but at the same time that is "logical" according to the monster's story/legend and ecology. Hence the fact that they don't have standard stats that would soon become common knowledge among play...

Re: Anybody daring to swear he doesn't roll concealed? ;)
I used to be in a D&D 3e campaign for 1 and half years and one of the player always rolled his D20 "concealed" by opening a hard cover book and rolling on the first page and then hastily removing the dice and closing the book. I don't think he ever rolled below 15 (no one could really ...

Re: Encumbrance Houserules Meanderings
Give them a moderate-sized box on their character sheet to write their equipment in and anything they can write in there (that is legible) they can carry. That's a patently unfair system - I, and a single player of the 8 at my table, can write legibly in what I would call a 6 point font. Most of my...

In my game the only concealed roll are "find trap" and such (if you don't find one, you shouldn't know it's because you failed the roll.)

Re: Encumbrance Houserules Meanderings
Think I'm going to go the easy route, and firstly be very stingy with item rewards, so it'll rarely come up, and secondly, do spot "what are you carrying and how are you carrying it" inquiries of random players. If they can't explain something, then some random piece(s) of gear will disap...

I'm necromancing an old thread here, just to let you know that Jeff Dee is doing another of his "Re-creating my art from..." project on Kickstarter (btw, with all the hoopla of the last weeks, we can still talk about Kickstarter projects, right? ;). After re-visiting Q1, S3, the Deities an...

Re: d16 for ability tests? Talk me out of this idea.
Rolling 3D6 makes "average" character: most have 10 or 11 stats, exceptionally one gets a 17 or 18 or a 3 or 4. So character are normal dude, with maybe one or two very "abnormal/special" stat. It's all good and well. Now, you certainly could use 3D6 (or 3D8 or 4D10 or whatever c...

Great fan of The Enemy within also. Maybe Insanity could easily be incorporated into the magic Corruption mechanism: minor, major, greater, and a new table: insanity corruption. Seeing/interacting with certain monsters would provoke a DC Will check or suffer an insanity Corruption. That way you don'...

Lovers of Wolves in the Throne Room should give a listen to Abigail Williams' latest, different from the others before: Becoming.

One can simply use TWO boxes for each spell:name + effects, that could work OK.meinvt wrote:I think Wizards need room in their spells list to detail Mercurial Magic and Manifestation information. That is something that room is something I see missing on most character sheets.

Re: DCC and AD&D
I agree 100%, the CD were fun and a mood-changing experience. As for Mark of Amber it is a full-blown sequel, set some 20 years in the future. A complicated whodunit involving literally dozens of Amberville from 4 generations! There is also a dream sequence where the party revisit some part of the o...

The D&D module X2-Castle Amber by Tom Moldway, based on Clark Ashton-Smith's Averoigne world, is clearly Appendix-N material. even if Ashton-Smith is not namely listed there. The problem is I ran that adventure so often (I have 3 copies in different shape of conservation, played it twice, DMed i...

I put a DCC-funnel starting village right there in the Suss Forest just yesterday.
