Re: Appendix N broken down by references
A great resource. Thanks! Just yesterday I finished reading "Cugel's Saga" by Jack Vance. I really enjoyed it both as a fantasy story and as reference material for playing a thief or rogue in an RPG. Cugel isn't just a robber, he's a charlatan, con artist, shady businessman and adventurer....

Re: Is This Hugh???
I made this (out of three other figures) about two-and-a-half or three years ago, and only dug it out (along with a couple others) to put on a base this past weekend... +1. Excellent recycling of the Hypertime and Infinity Challenge HeroClix sets! If only you could shave his chin clean for that 70s...

Re: Do Charm Spells Work on Undead or No?
Point is that conventions and magic don't mix. While I agree with you for the most part (I went to one once, and the smell of all those players overwhelmed the hall's AC) it's not fair to single them out. Wargamers and roleplayers are just as unappealing en masse . /That reminds me, I'd better go s...

Re: New Kickstarter for Funkier (d18, d11, d15) dice
I'm in. This is a great kickstarter for those of us addicted to new dice. Time to start rationalizing my spending... Hey, it seems like DCC could use a D18 in the dice chain, couldn't it? Or even if it's just the mechanical application of a successful quest to increase a halfling's skill in combat. ...

Re: Zocchi Dice Buyer's Guide
People here are so friendly toward the 51st through 63rd states, I love that. I'll keep an eye out for your next listing, and thanks. I think an "official" set of DCC dice that came in an "official" DCC logo dice bag would sell hand over fist. Yes, I agree, but would it be made a...

Darn, looks like they're all gone. You should get more, if you can. I'm sure I'm not the only one left who'd jump at the chance of getting these fine-looking items for such a reasonable price as you were asking. You've already done the hard part, tracking down a supply. :) As of right now there's s...

Re: Curious about the DCC RPG crowd...
My friend Norman got the Mentzer red box for Xmas '84. So I guess we first played in 1985.
Four years later we were playing nothing but Paranoia. Wow, I miss that crowd. I took so much friendly-fire in those days...

Re: Mighty Deeds and non-Warriors
I may be mistaken, but I think you're saying I'm wrong. You have a well-considered opinion, and I respect it. But if I were playing a Wizard and his options were getting narrower and narrower for avoiding a certain death, I'd hope my GM would allow me to attempt something crazy with some ...

Re: Mighty Deeds and non-Warriors
Anybody could try to jump on that squat foe's back to gain altitude (to grab a ledge or vine, perhaps), but only the Warrior could make an attack in the same action. Way back in the early days of RPGs, another name for Warrior was "Hero". I think this is a clue as to the kind of person Wa...

Re: Wizards, Known Spells, & Spellbooks
Also had the idea of wizards booby-trapping their spellbooks by deliberately including dangerous mercurial affects or maybe even codifying misfire into the spell. Of course the wizard who pens the spell would know to ignore the dangerous added portions of the incantation, but anyone who stole their...

Re: DCC RPG Undead Monsters
Keeping with the "avoid the ordinary" theme of the game, I'd replace each monster's level drain with a different ability, each one with as much macabre flavor as I can pack in. Since there's enough monsters out there to prevent players ever encountering the same monster twice, after a whil...

Re: Quick question regarding healing ability points. . .
I was just wondering this myself. So I guess the player would get to choose which damaged Ability score to heal? I would say that would be true in a game that wanted to be fair and balanced to the players, a game that let players feel like it was possible to succeed and triumph over Chaos. But this...

Also, I can't think of anything appropriate to do with elves, as they're just basically Wizards that can fight better. What do you guys think? I've never liked how flavourless elves are. Why make them a fighter/magic-user when they could be something unique? I'd give players two choices for an elf,...

Re: DCC and AD&D
Are you guys letting 1E influence your DCC games? Magic is so trustworthy in 1E. That is what stands out for me. In AD&D, you can cast a spell to unlock a door or cure warts without worrying if one of your friends is going to die in some hideous Monkey's Paw-type accident. Plus you've got stand...

Hi, my name is Bill and I live near Kingston, Ontario. I'm older than Drake, but I probably have less rpg experience than anyone... I've been out of practice since AD&D 2E. I've been playing a lot of euro-type boardgames (like on Boardgamegeek.com) and also a superhero board game called HeroClix...

Re: Higher Level PC Generator for DCC?
Question: Warriors add their Deed Die to damage, right? Should that be shown on the PDF character sheet? Also, I think I saw a problem where the damage die for the 2-handed sword wasn't appearing. Those bugs is squashed. ;) Well, if you find these helpful... I rolled up a Level 1 Wizard with a 16 S...

Thanks for the kind words Scribble. I enjoy creating these things and I'm glad folks find them useful! Useful, hell. It's a mini-game all to itself! :D My favourite character so far is the Level 1 Wizard and former Potato Farmer with STR 17 who (with his +1 Luck bonus to melee damage) swings his st...

Re: Two questions regarding deeds of arms
But yes, Warrior/Dwarves that don't ALWAYS declare a Mighty Deed are doing it wrong. They absolutely should. I agree that it has no downside, but I can see a couple of reasons why my Warriors (and I'm going to play nothing but) would not declare a deed every time, or not use my most devastating mov...

Ahhh, just pick up some Green Arrow comics (or Hawkeye, who is in The Avengers comics). So would you take the suggestions from this thread, and rank them (best to worst), and only let a 1st level ranger achieve number 10 on such a list with a successful Deed die roll? I mean, there's got to be somet...

I notice you fellows are both in favor of 'giving' the Monk the Warrior's MDoA. Meanwhile, I'm not. Personally, my own personal solution if I wanted to play a Monk would be to play a Warrior with Monk flavoring, but that's just me... . I guess there are two sides to this debate and the official enc...

I like this new version. (How could I not? Looks like I had some good ideas!) Since you know your players, you can be confident in knowing that they won't abuse the class if it turns out to be capable of out-performing the default-class characters in the party. My strong concerns about keeping class...

Re: Please review my Monk class
I'm always glad to see some appreciation for the pseudo-"Eastern" classes that Gary threw in for fun, so here are my notes, in the spirit of being constructive. My perspective is that each class ability should be something you can connect directly to background or use to flesh out a person...
