Re: You Might Be Interested

How does one go from a cobbler to a wizard? It is possible that you could have the character infused with arcane energy and knowledge that gives him a starting place with spells, but then he is on his own. Perhaps it is a tease given out by a powerful entity that is hoping to entice a character int...

It seems to be a pretty cool idea, if you do not mind the extra bookkeeping.

Re: How about some alternate classes

Someday I will write my Gnome "Illusionist" class. It would be non-patron magic. Oh and my gnomes are "tiny", less than 2 feet tall with long beards. Tend to wear floppy hats and hide in gardens. Bards with "music" magic, also without patrons could be cool. I've always...

Re: Ability Checks vs Ability "TESTS"

Personally, the DM should just tell what the player(s) need to roll then ask them to add any appropriate modifiers. Or if it is something that the player is unaware of, just ask them what thier stat is and roll it for them. With that being said, to keep us players on our toes, make some completely r...

Re: Question about "Withdrawl," page 95

There was more to attacks of opportunity than hitting a guy dancing in combat. Besides, that's the way I will run it, not the way it may or may not have been written in the rules. If there is something about 3E or 4E I like, I don't think Mr. Goodman is gonna visit my gaming table and point his fin...

Re: Question about "Withdrawl," page 95

In actual play I call this the "free whack" rule. Do something that exposes your back to an enemy, and they get a free whack against you. I played with this rule back in the 1980's, before 3E turned it into an overly complex mechanism that required rulebooks and map grids to adjudicate. I...

Re: Books that should be in Appendix N

Even though it is more modern, The Game of Thrones series definately seems "Appendix N" worthy. Its got the undefined magic system of "only death can pay for life". Its got the great unknown, (White Walkers and Wildings from beyond the wall.) Minus any demihumans save the dwarf, ...

[/quote]And on the wizard's quest for magical power: This is what I love about the game -- Clerics and Wizards become the real drivers of adventurers and adventures. Ok now! Since I have been reading the H.P. Lovecraft stories it does makes sence now that Cthulhu is Neutral. Even in his own cults dedicated to him, he does not care about. All of humanity he considers nothing more than a big Ant-hill. We are all tiny, insignificant insects to be squashed at his wh...

Black Powder Firearms: General Characteristics: -Firearms can be used as clubs at no penalty. -Reloading takes one full round. -On a critical hit, target saves vs. death (DC 15), save for normal damage. -In tight quarters, after firing, smoke fills a ten-foot area centered on the firer, providing c...

Re: Question about "Withdrawl," page 95

Dancing around in between combatants should provoke an attack as well. Only a fool or someone who thinks they are hard to hit does that. I would say, if using miniatures, to use the 3e rule. Yup! I totally agree! That only happens in a Movie, when it is choreographed to have it happen that way! Som...

Re: Question about "Withdrawl," page 95

I believe that when looking at the definition of "Withdrawl Movement", one must look at the specifics of the case in question. First, Opponents must allready be "Stuck In" melee combat. That means they are allready trading blows from the previous round(s) with your typical melee ...

Re: Firing into Melee

Just thinking about "friendly fire" at low level combat, it should be duly noted that is to be expected. First, as players are new to the game, learning that you just killed one of the party members with one shot, it really will make you rethink your next "shoot into melee action"...
