Re: Guidelines for monster creation

When it comes to monsters, DCC has a Savage World feel. In Savage Worlds the GM is encouraged to make the monster he feels like making by giving it whatever stats feel appropriate. The idea of "balance" shouldn't come between you and the horrible creation you envision.

Re: DCC: Warhammer

Warhammer Fantasy and DCC are a good match. I'll share my personal take on a DCChammer campaign. I'd run this Warhammer + DCC game as a "re-imagining" more than a conversion. I'd take some stuff I really like about the Warhammer world and I'd leave out the things that can get in the way fr...

Re: DCC and AD&D

In all instances were AD&D & DCC diverge in style (magic, epic warriors, knave with a sword vs. hero, monsters you've never even heard tales about trying to eat your face, etc.) I am going full-bore DCC... all AD&D gets to pitch in is the adventure seed and a few cameo appearances (beho...

DCC and AD&D

Hello everybody, There are two distinct takes on the DCC game running through my head right now. On the one hand, there's the Appendix N take. You know what I mean by that: shaping my games after pre-d&d swords and sorcery and new wave fantasy. On the other hand, I see DCC as a great way to re-i...

Re: Adventures with Purple Duck Games

My first for-publication adventure for the system, Bone Hoard of the Dancing Horror , is currently with the editor at Purple Duck Games . I have to say that I am really excited about this, and I hope that you will enjoy playing through it as much as I enjoyed writing it. There is at least one truly...

My local game store just announced that they'll be hosting a Free RPG Day event as well. ( Well, maybe they announced it a while back, and I just found out today.) I'll see if it's not too late for me to run a DCC demo.

Re: Burning Luck

Say I have Luck 14 (+1), and I’m not a thief/Halfling. I burn 4 points, so my Luck is now 10 (+0) Because Luck is used for listen checks, does this now mean I can’t hear as well as I once could? I have a question of my own. It says in PG 19 that the LUCK modifier doesn't change over time. Does this...

Re: How crunchy/detailed is it?

I think DCC RPG is deceiving. It's a large book with lots of charts, but the actual mechanics of it are very straight forward. There are some handy reference sheets which compile all of the crit tables, which means the only reason you'll need to open your book will be to level and to look up spell ...

Absolutely brilliant Crow! Cthulhu, Yog-Sothoth, and Rat God? Your host of Gods just drips of appendix N!

I also really like the word Shanthopal. Does it have some sort of meaning?

Re: Pitching DCC to potential players.

Let me know if you need any help making a flyer. I am currently making a Judge's Screen for my own use, using the Snapshot tool in Adobe to clip artwork for the player's side of the screen. The problem with DCC isn't that there is a lack of evocative artwork, making it hard to find some to use, but...

Re: Pitching DCC to potential players.

You could use the backcover blurb as a start. You could describe the game as the Heavy Metal offspring of Dungeons & Dragons and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, born twisted and mutated, cackling with insane glee while it chants a litany to Howard, Leiber, Lovecraft, and Moorcock. You could state s...

Pitching DCC to potential players.

Hello everybody! I'm currently trying to recruit local gamers for my Dungeon Crawl Classics campaign. Even though I'm totally enamored with the game, I'm kind of having a hard time coming up with a compelling pitch that can get people to try DCC. I mean, I could just list everything that's cool abou...

Re: Theosophy and Appendix N

I'm wondering if any of you have noticed connections between the many tropes of Appendix N pseudo-history and the teachings of Theosophy. You can, in my opinion, clearly see such analogues in Howard's Hyperborea: the fall of Atlantis, various relict races, etc. I'm just curious if anyone else has n...

I've been running my group through the old Giants (G-series) modules. I don't bother to convert stuff in advance but "wing it" as we play. Most old school modules should be easy to run. Hey Fin, I'd like to hear more about how your run of the G-Series! Did you start your PCs at level 0? H...

Re: How about some alternate classes

Ask and ye shall receive. Here's the barbarian class I made the other day. It features lower deed dice than the warrior but a huge spike for getting crazy, with a big come down afterwards. No lucky weapon, and, as I use carousing rules, they are easily overdo it. BARBARIAN Savage interlopers from t...

When I get my copy of DCC RPG, I'm going to start the players as 0-level slobs on the Isle of the Unknown. I appreciate Joseph making a game that fits so well with my isle! I feel bad for those poor 0-levelers! How are you going to torture them next? Why don't you also send them to dread ...

Re: What do you have in minds for your players?

The third is our far future, tha final continent of Earth. Maybe it would be prudent for one of us to come up with stats for ray-guns, laser swords, and mutants. LOTS of different types of mutants ! :) Speaking of Hyborea, I'm tempted to include the winged ape-like race featured in Robert E. Howard...
