Conjurer Class idea
I'd greatly appreciate any feedback on this class. While the class is overtly magical in nature its role is arguably somewhere between the AD&D monk and psionicist of 1st /2nd edition. The inspiration for this came from a blog post I read recently....which I can't now locate....proposing somethi...

If you want to go with the 50% miss chance you could just say any odd number on the attack roll misses.

Re: HARD CORE Last attempt to play through the WOTC Core Mod
This is really great.
I think that WotC would be in much better shape if they had YOU in charge of selling 4e, instead of...idunno, whoever the hell actually is in charge of such stuff over there.

"Urchin Punching For Fun and Profit: Punch Your Way to Tenth Level" Have you been denied the XP you've rightfully earned by miserly DMs? Are in-game insurance companies and assorted fatcats colluding to keep you down, wallowing in filth and degredation with the zero-level types and sundry ...

Re: New Spells
I like it. I had been considering adding something along these lines (in terms of its general effects) but haven't gotten around to writing anything up. I definitely like the idea of a 'cast it and it gives you something to do for several rounds' sort of spell. While the damage seems okay the to-hit...

Re: Why is Cthulhu Neutral?
My perception of the Goodman take on this is that Law and Chaos are these two warring forces. The alignments aren't really moral predictors so much as they are what 'side' you're on in this struggle. Cthulhu isn't part of that conflict; he predates these parvenue deities championing what are to him ...

Re: So GG is not putting out more DCC rulebooks?
I learned to play D&D with the chits from my first box set. Just curious ... white box or blue box? The only D&D that I can recall with chits included was the blue "Holmes" version. I guess it was what's called the Blue Box. It was a full color box, there was a red dragon on the f...

Re: So GG is not putting out more DCC rulebooks?
One book is fabulous. I too applaud this approach. I lived through the slow release of 1st edition, and I have to disagree with the notion that it reflected the sort of problem with multiple rulebooks we've seen since then. The incremental release of that game came from the problems a small company ...

Re: Three Things I Don't Love About DCC
Re: mercurial magic, I'd try to go with it as-is (love the ghost idea) but I'd consider that to be one "implementation" of Read Magic. If you can find or research another version of Read Magic it would work differently for you. So right there he has a goal, find a more usable version of th...

Darn, looks like they're all gone. You should get more, if you can. I'm sure I'm not the only one left who'd jump at the chance of getting these fine-looking items for such a reasonable price as you were asking. You've already done the hard part, tracking down a supply.

Depends on how hard it is to value. Everyone knows what a 'standard' sword is worth (every player, if not every gong farmer) and thereby take a swag at a found sword's relative condition, so it's generally not worth making a big deal about. For those I usually give half value for nice stuff, 25% for...

Re: How do you interpret the chaotic alignment?
I'm working on a Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying inspired setting and am going with a five alignment system. Chaos - - - - - - anti-social - - neutral - - social - - - - - - Law The smaller gap between the center three is intentional. "Anti-social" is so named to contrast with social, not to...

Somewhat. If you just want to convince the ogre not to eat you because you know where a treasure horde is located, though, that's not the sort of thing you'd disguise yourself for. In the case of "I want to grift those saps", I don't know. My notion was predicated on the PC making a partic...

In thinking about such characters as Cugel the Clever I got to thinking that thieves should perhaps have a class-based ability to persuade people to various statements. I think the way stealth works is appropriate here, that is to say against fixed difficulty numbers rather than some factor dependin...

Two things regarding DCC in particular, from judging for two groups I sent through zero level modules: Don't let them forget luck! Oh wait that was already mentioned. Well yes, that. Also, the somewhat "self defining" nature of the occupational skills seemed to flummox the players. I was a...

Stylite. It has Vancian provenance afterall. Comes with rope and a bucket. Weapon: cat-o-nine-tails (d5 subdual). Knows about religion, balance, being bizarre, and the weather. Oh yes, intimately familiar with the weather.

Earlier DOB, but otherwise largely the same Holmes-->AD&D tale. I bought the AD&D books as they came out. MM, then PHB, then finally (after an agonizing wait) the DMG. Before Holmes I'd seen the white box and its expansions in the stores where I bought wargames and always found D&D looke...

Re: Thieves'/Halflings Luck and (again!) Mighty Deeds of Arm
Personally, I don't see a particular problem with allowing their luck to increase to 18. Consider that while casters are gaining spells that can blow up god-knows-what at high levels and fighters are gaining their MDA, damage bonuses, and huge HP/crit dice, luck is the main thing thieves (and especi...

Er...hm. I thought this was all clear in my mind, but now I'm not sure. The Vance quote Mr. Goodman includes in his response, which I take it was included to support/demonstrate the way he wants the game to work, is actually quite in line with the idea that a wizard can change his "memorized&qu...

Re: DCC: Warhammer
I had no real thought of Enemy Within, or really even of a WFRP "conversion", strictly speaking. More just using the warhammer world as a jumping-off point for a DCC setting. My idea is that setting the game at a time a) prior to the magical colleges, when all arcane magic is basically ill...

Here's what I have so far: link This isn't 100% 'canon', I've changed some of the gods' portfolios a bit. My overall take on the situation, as presented in the opening paragraphs, is an attempt to reconcile DCC's Appendix N sensibilities (very Elric-ian, imo) with WFRP. Let me know what you think. O...

I think it's an excellent fit, and have been actively working on setting something up. I'm planning on setting it earlier than the usual WFRP campaign--specifically, during the Age of the Three Emperors. The situation is more fluid, which seems right for DCC, and also this is before the empire estab...
