Re: The Wait is Getting to Me
Yeah, I know that I just have to wait. And I really prefer to support local businesses when I can, but each step along the chain is another where a link could break. General release date is four days from now. I find myself in the unenviable position of possibly being the last in my circle to...

The Wait is Getting to Me
Hiya. The wait to get the book (from a brick-and-mortar preorder) is getting to me, especially as the regular release date draws ever closer, and the game is appearing in places farther than myself from the printer. While I am assured that the shop ordered it as a preorder, what happens if the order...

Re: You Might Be Interested
Thanks for all of the replies. We could really use a "multiquote" function! I am currently working on two 0-level funnels that should be adaptable to any campaign. I am also working on a large, old free city for DCC that includes much in the way of lost buildings, catacombs, and ruins bene...

Re: DCC Alignment question
I suppose that I had not considered there being a law vs. chaos "debate" when it came to whether the paladin keeps treasure for himself - I thought of it as lawful to take treasure and use it for means that propagate law, whether that be through taking a share as "payment", dona...

What are you looking for, exactly, in terms of art? There are some samples of work I've done at www.danieljbishop.ca.

Re: DCC Alignment question
One could attempt to justify a murder on the good/evil axis - taking one life is evil, but saving many lives with the act makes it less (or even entirely not) evil in the opinion of almost everyone I have ever spoken to. It is even this idea that caused our legal system to establish a difference be...

Re: Limits to Spell Burn?
I agree with you. The problem is a spell like Patron Bond could have implications the rest of their adventuring career. There is big incentive to roll the top result as you will carry the benefit as long as you keep that patron. I understand what everyone is saying I just don't think the risk outwe...

Re: Limits to Spell Burn?
Remember also that some patrons may require the spell to be cast in specific areas, such as a burning desert. You can set any special conditions for any patron you want.
You can also use the patron's requests to balance the benefits the character gains, as per the book.

Re: Creation of Mythology
Here's an example. Working on a persistent campaign setting, I decided to set the game in a city with a vast and varied underworld. While working on the city, I wrote this: The Catacombs of Shanthopal are of two types: Temple Catacombs, for the internment of priests, and the Public Catacombs, which ...

Creation of Mythology
I am liking how this game encourages -- nay, demands! -- the creation of a personal (group) mythology, in terms of patrons, creatures, spells, gods, etc.

Re: DCC is DDNext
I think the problem with 3.X is how they've tried to codify every possibility into the game. If you play the game RAW it takes a long time to get to the point where you seldom refer to the rules. More importantly, at higher levels, the math is so out of control that a single, uninteresting encounte...

Re: First session funnel
My group played our first game tonight. 10 of 18 characters survived the Portal funnel. That's a pretty good percentage. I don't think I've ever run an adventure for zeroes where more than half survived. I have. The first time I ran Portal Under the Stars, only 2 PCs were lost. They did sacrifice a...

I ,in no way, assume you to be an idiot either. You would if you knew me better. :D I am as prone to idiocy as anyone else. Besides, I am thinking about using this instead of the ruleset I was working on -- it is that good! -- and I want people to make the products which would make that easier........

Re: Long-Term DCC Play
I would just like to point out that the rulebook barely made it to people's houses and isn't even on store shelves. If the modules are like 66.5, this game will proceed to kick ass and Mr Goodman has given the green light to let any of us publish or post here rules, adventures and settings that wil...

Re: Long-Term DCC Play
I think we actually agree more than disagree. When I am thinking of a long-term game, I am not thinking just of a game that lasts for a lot of episodes. I am thinking of a game where, specifically, goals are player-driven as much as they are GM-driven. And I do not mean simply questing to undo thing...

DCC is retro, in that it looks back to an earlier aesthetic and philosophy of what makes a fun game, but it is not a clone.

Re: Long-Term DCC Play
I am happy to agree that "the first rule of good gaming is having a good GM", but that doesn't prevent me from wanting to offer the tools to help make a mediocre GM good, a good GM great, and a crappy GM a little less crappy. I'm going to nitpick this. A good ruleset can lift up the avera...

Re: Long-Term DCC Play
Based on my reading of RPG forums, long term campaigning has less to do with the game system and more to do with player commitment and group stability. Do you think that those things have nothing to do with the system used? No, I just think the system is a way less important part than you do (proba...
