Re: Character Improvement Options
Nice posts, nice thread. As a DM, i gave PCs a +1 to their preferred stat (AGI for thief, INT for Wiz, PER for Cleric, STR for Dwarf) upon reaching first level. They all loved it, because conveniently it brought all of them (except the Dwarf) from a +0 to a +1 modifier (The dwarf increased from a -1...

Re: Party composition & different roles
From my experience it's usually a bunch of wizards, with henchmen in tow - whatever the edition. A bunch of wizards with henchmen in FRONT. LOL, sorry, i didn't take that option into account, i don't play with henchmen if i can do without. :P Instead of playing 4 wizards and then have some NPC set ...

Re: Class Conversions for DCC
I kinda like the original idea, but i don't think dcc is the right place for it. These disciplines look way too "3rd edition-ey" for my taste Thanks for the feed back. You may be right, but so far its been a pretty well received house rule here. *Shrug* Hopefully we'll get some official d...

Re: DCC RPG Funnel Feedback
One thing I had to pound into player's heads was heroes are made, not born. Doesn't help my case that there isn't a rule for stat advancement, I'm gonna house rule 2 stats can get + 1 per level except luck. After having jumped from dming 4e to dcc, I feel this will feel like a more natural progress...

Re: A blasphemous idea
I will also engage in blasphemy, but go even further -- instead of "prestige classes" why not a "class replacement" option that allows a character to take the abilities of another class as its "level." This would be after 5th level, of course. So, for instance, a halfl...

Re: A blasphemous idea
RP-wise the classes would be the stuff you can't be coming out of the funnel. King's guard, High Priest, Sage, Assassin (of course), and the class abilities would allow the character to do a little something more than the usually warrior or cleric. Like... Area "lay on hands" for a Theurg...

Re: Party composition & different roles
Check page 56 of Beta doc, you'll find a table for starting cash for levels 1-3 It depends on class, like 5d12 for a warrior, 4d20 for a cleric, or 3d10 for a thief. Anyway, a lot less than you thought ;) Oh! I knew I saw it somewhere, couldn't find it, and just figured that I mixed it up with one ...

Re: Demi-human classes...
I've played this with my group a few times and... the whole race\class thing is a nonstarter for us. After the first two games we threw out the demihumans and just stuck with the "core four". As someone mentioned above, this fits classic sword & sorcery better (for us, at least). This...

Re: Party composition & different roles
However, didn't I see someplace on these forums that Mr G. Stated that replacement 1st levels or above would NOT get the added d4 hp from their 0 level experience? Not much but still (if I am recalling correctly) that is a reasonable incentive to go back and try and make a L0 live thru a pilot adve...

Re: again about MDoA ...
Something tells me that an average of 17 is actually pretty low for the most powerful mortal Warrior in the world, especially when a 4-level Wizard can do 168 pts of damage with a single Magic Missle spell if he maxes out (rolls a 20 and spell burns.) I think we're going to disagree with what the s...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
Another idea, rather than slowing the Class die progression is to make the it a multiple rather than a plus 2. Spell Loss : if result of Class die < (spell level x2) This would slow down attempts by wizards to over reach their power. It also make 1st level wizards particularly vulnerable ( zero cha...

Re: again about MDoA ...
@Tortog : I think that the aim in DCC is to tell a story, survive and overcome terrible odds. The aim in 3E has always been the aquisition of power, whether through magical items - which are quite easy to obtain, and the game clearly states how much wealth you're supposed to have at each level (ok,...

sorry , forgot to state "for levels 6th -10th".caveman wrote:ah, ok. The "PPS" in post with the chart confused me.
And actually d13 won't be needed as 10th level means only d12; same thing then for 13 results on the charts.

Re: again about MDoA ...
I'm fine with MDoA capped at 7, as i said before. I will apply a houserule though (read my previous posts on this thread) to account for the different chances of tripping different foes. I think DCC is (and has always been) intended for 1-10 levels, and i don't think it's right to try and find a rat...

Re: no magic items--shouldn't those be playtested?
My players are going to banish a demon which otherwise would run amok through the city, he's the Grey Render, basically the D&D creature we all know made unique. And right out of the mutliverse depths. RP element : The weapon dealing the last blow to the fiend will absorb part of his s...

Re: Party composition & different roles
"when a PC dies, have the player roll another 6 stats in order, roll 1d6 (1-2-3:human, 4:elf, 5:dwarf, 6:halfling) and choose a class for those stats." How about d24: 1-3 Cleric, 4-6 Warrior, 7-9 Thief, 10-12 Wizard, 13-16 Dwarf, 17-20 Elf, 21-24 Halfling? That way you lose that kind of &...

JediOre is wise. Great suggestions! 8) Thanks to you both for the suggestions. We are mostly on the same psychic waves  I say mostly because i was wondering if the rule "when a PC dies, have the player roll another 6 stats in order, roll 1d6 (1-2-3:human, 4:elf, 5:dwarf, 6:halfling) and ...

but then again, should the new PC be of the class the party is missing (eg: if a warrior dies, you need a warrior/dwarf, if a wizard dies you want another wizard/elf to take his place..)?dunbruha wrote:Maybe have them roll up 3 sets of stats, and then let them choose the one they want to play.

Did he run it that you got the bonus die damage or a MDoA, or both? How did he do cleave? Extra attack if you rolled a 3+ on the attack die? It's hard to say because I didn't see the stats on the monster, I just described what I wanted to do and Joe adjudicated it the results. It might not have bee...

Party composition & different roles
Ok, we all know optimal composition for most adventures is warrior, wizard, cleric, thief. My group with little help on my part managed to get out of the funnel with one dwarf, one cleric, one wizard and one thief. I was wondering: if a PC dies (it's probable at least one is going to die in the boss...

Look for the "Xbows, Two handed weapons & equalizing damage thread". There you can find the houserule i'm applying to weapon usage! How is it working out in play? I like the 1 action=1 action die aspect. I'm so used to how D&D has always done two weapon fighting, but I've never fe...

Hi
does anybody know any good names for atmosphere instrumental music?
I already know Midnight Syndicate (mostly gothic & horror, but also some medieval fantasy) and Dronolan's Tower, and they're great.
Anything similar?
