Liber Arcanum

So... I figured it's about time I introduced everyone to my next project. Liber Arcanum... which translates variously as "mysterious book," or "book of mysteries" and is written specifically to expand the number of spells available to the DCCRPG system and to provide the Storytel...

Re: Creature Catalog

It's now on rpgnow! That means I get to go buy it now! Woot At the moment it's digital only, but I'm waiting for my proof copy from the printer that works with rpgnow... I was going to make an announcement after I got everything bundled properly. But the fact that it got noticed prior to my ...

Re: I had it! Time to go!

@ Gameogre> Great post! If you don't mind, I think I will print that off and actually post it as part of the table rules for my next game. I've never really cared about folks rolling my dice, but the zocci dice are a bit pricy so I keep mine on a short leash. I would (after recent experiences) amend...

... Thank the Gods of Evil Nickers that laundry hadn't been done in a few days. ... Last but not least it was used at first as a shield during a deadly pickle ambush and then as a makeshift club to beat back and discourage things from erupting into a full blown food melee. ... Re: what to do with problem players

I think I've tried all of these options at some point, and they all work to varying degrees. I would add a cautionary note to the practice of rewarding players with XP for good Role Play. This was my practice until a few years ago. In the early systems where you needed millions of XP to get to the t...

Re: Still looking for an easy encumbrance system?

So long as you're not selling it, you're probably making "Fair Use" of the material. It would depend on how much of the stat blocks and such that you've got included. If it's just references to page numbers in the books, then I'd be more confident than if you were reprinting entire stat b...

Re: Still looking for an easy encumbrance system?

That sounds like at least six kinds of awesome -- kudos for putting in the work to put that together! Thanx, I wish I could share it on-line, but I suspect I'd be violating copyright law. :( Not to challenge the idea, but because I'm curious: Do the players know as much about real overland travel a...

Re: Still looking for an easy encumbrance system?

@GB> While what you're saying makes a lot of sense, and if it works for you then... Great. And in a standard dungeon crawl, it's probably the better option. The way you describe it, yeah, there's not much point and it bogs things down... Unless your GM takes the time to set things up properly. But i...

Re: Still looking for an easy encumbrance system?

Like cthulhudarren, I was having trouble figuring this out until I saw the examples posted, but what does the "ignore if... plate, chain, leather" thing mean? I'm guessing that's a reference to hvy., med., lt. armor. I'm also guessing that this means: if you're wearing plate you only get t...

My print copy just arrived. I've been going over the pdf copy while waiting, and overall I impressed by the amount of work you've done. Not everything is to my taste (and I did not expect it to be), but the normal animal stats are definitely going to get use. There are too many PCs with ducks, cows...

Having made my reflex save to avoid snarfing tea onto my computer (thanx Gameogre) and having cleaned up the floor; I now have a chance to reply to the thread. As much as I'd like to preserve the mystery, pragmatism usually wins out, and I let the players manage and narrate their own spell...

OK... first the easy stuff: I wanted to set up a bundle deal, but after repeated attempts and failures in trying to figure out how to sign up for Lulu's 'PDF' service I gave up. I shopped around, and most folks weren't set up to do print on demand, which meant that if I wanted to use their services ...

Re: Some more rules questions

Here are some questions that arose during our regular campaign. As always, thanks for your insights! 1. Can the Halfling burn his Luck on the Wizard’s spell check? Seems like it to me, but wouldn’t that be much too powerful? Yes... but I'm not a big fan of regenerative luck, so in my games all char...

Re: When PCs die - how do you handle this?

RC is right, constantly reanimating characters can cause death to lose its sting, but sometimes you need that dead character to carry the story forward to a critical moment. But I've always had a large number of folks interested in playing the 'necropolitan' template in the 3.5 edition. ---- Let the...

Re: Aereth reboot for DCC RPG?

I'm a huge fan of Aereth and the DCC modules, but I'm not sure Aereth needs total re-boot... more like a re-tooling to fit the DCCRPG mechanics and most of that is with the gods, critters, and special equipment/spells/NPCs (GM's Guide Stuff). The thing to keep in mind IMO is: which part of the Appen...

Re: Patrons and Gods, a question...

Page 320 Patrons are not always gods. A patron can be any powerful supernatural creature. In fact they are usually demons, devils, and demi-gods, not full deities. To deign low enough to engage in compacts with mortals would not be flattering to a deity’s ego. Don't tell that to Perseus or Hercules...
