Re: module compability

RATFACE! i want filcher took back too! My rough idea is that any illos featuring band memebers in the Lankhmar stuff happened prior to Sailors on the Starless Sea. Filcher Took might still be alive but since there are no halflings native to Lankhmar it is unlikely he will pop up, but who knows… I d...

Re: sellswords of punjar

Though it seems like an easy answer because the word "Punjar" is in there, I unfortunately do not see the 4E stuff being the best Punjar can be ...at all.

Lots of compromises were made for an inferior game system. Sorry, I wouldn't champion this cause. It can be done so much better.

Re: Spell burn to regain spells

1 point of spell burn = one recasting of a lost spell This is how I run all online games, home games and con games. . I see how it can interrupted as getting the spell back entirely , but that makes wizards a lot more powerful in the long run. Using the later system in a short adventure, a wizard , ...

Re: What is playing at Con on the Cob Hudson Ohio this Oct?

good catch I think thats a mistake , and Roy dropped that game to man the Goodman table. I should have pregens for mine, but if you want to make some more using straight 3d6 in a row you can. It might be good to have some backup in case I forget something . Make 1st level guys 3d6 in row and we can ...

I've submitted : The Spine Wizards Tower, A modified version of the Emerald Enchanter (where you start in his prison), and Ride of the Black eagle. Roy Snider will be running other games and Eric Daum will be running Frozen in Time and Sailors. For the most part I won't be in charge of the booth but...

Re: Funnel For One

Considering time constraints , which we all have. And how using something prewritten is a great shortcut: I agree with JediOre… you can do Sailors and it can be fun. I've done it with Portal under the stars a few times. In Sailors, there are several places where you can restock the party so even if ...

Re: Appendix N Book Club July 2014:The Dying Earth by jack V

I started with The Eyes of the Overworld. That is the first story with Cugel the Clever in it and the character that Vance spends the most time with. I think The stuff before that is a kind of hodge podge of smaller stories, but for anyone who wants something to bite their teeth into right off the b...

Re: Alignment

I completely understand that. DMs so often have big ideas that players could care less about. It might have something to do with me being an artist but I never seem to quit trying. Even failure to hit lofty goals to me is it's own reward. Ironically I was just talking last night to someone about doi...

Re: Alignment

I don't think my real world notions have much to do with it: I just don't find it very interesting to develop complex thoughts about alignment in fantasy games. The simple standard works well to explain alignment to my players and to keep the game rolling. My players don't seem saddened and this ce...

Re: Alignment

Well after some time spent thinking I got to a conclusion, that this indeed may be the best approach. Civilization is by it's nature a fruit of law, it imposes rules upon rules on societies. People are not allowed to act according to their will, but to some written, accepted principles. Chaos acts ...

or…. it would be funny too if for some reason the cosmic overlords smiled at mortals being swallowed alive by sand serpents and actually granted a luck bonus if the adventurer could survive to see the light of day.

Re: Sand Serpent

Ya, you are correct, now that I actually read the stats. I think this is probably fine for level 2. One minor criticism is that you might want to detail the rules out on the thing more likely to occur. It seems like the swallowed thing would happen more frequent than the crit. You might just increas...

Re: Sand Serpent

this isn't any kind of comment on the stats but conceptually you might want to dial it one (or even two) steps to the right or left of Dune sand worms, because they are pretty well covered in Perils on the Purple Planet. If thats something you would care about. You could easily just change the descr...

Re: Free RPG Day!

One last thing : try to stop talking about balance. Ya I know that sounds dogmatic. try not to fix whats not broken. (Sorry for the slight thread jack, though I think this one's already a bit off the rails with the whole luck burn conversation). Philosophically I agree regarding "balance"...

Re: Free RPG Day!

I don't think there is such a thing as egregious luck burn. It's fun to burn luck that's why the rule is there. If anything, you should probably focus on awarding more luck in a con game or one shot because XP is meaningless in that context. It's the job of the DM to deal with games at the table. If...

Re: Is Hugh the Barbarian inspired by Rip Taylor?

I think Hugh is Hugh. Personality wise I imagine him as a big shallow jock dick for the most part.
I haven't thought about rip Taylor much in my life.
Everyone likes to pick out their own comparisons though. There have been other comparisons. Think of him as you'd like.

Nice write ups. I really like hearing how existing published adventures can bleed into one another, and Obviously I know them all pretty well ,so there's that too. I get what you are saying with tactics and players getting themselves killed. I've been playing and DMing lately and I'm repeatedly surp...

Re: Alignment

Gnomeboy: I really like that question but don't have an answer. I've been thinking one of the holy grails of high end DCC is adding some logical and flavorful explanation of halflings loaning luck akin to players describing spell burn or mighty deeds. Pretty much dovetails with stuff with luck in ge...

Re: Bringing back roll-under attribute checks?

There's a lot of wisdom in the above comments, and I think its good to remind everyone about the dice chain because the way DCC uses it is a fairly new thing. Also I believe the book does say you can use a DC or roll under , I use both all the time, but I wouldn't look to the book to give me permiss...

Re: Player Betrayal

Let it play out. Sounds like Walter is an enemy now, but a lot of the time players can not so overtly get other players killed too and you shouldn't change the game then either. Another thought, to even things up a bit , is to have some beast men come to their senses and switch sides …or refuse to f...
