Re: City Maps & Settings
If you can track it down, Yiggsburg by Troll Lord Games is probably the most detailed city book I've ever seen. It was also Gary Gygax's last project so it's a pretty cool piece of history. Unfortunately, after Gary passed away the licence for it went into limbo, and it only ever saw a single print ...

Re: Just curioius do people have campaigns that go past leve
My group is right around the level 5 mark now. My overall mortality has been pretty low for a DCC game though. This is on account of a house rule I use. Basically when a PC is killed they sort of become a Schrodinger's Cat. The player records how far into the negatives they are, and then after the b...

Re: Economics and keeping the PC's poor.
Oh hey. Responses. Interestingly enough I've actually begun to move away from even awarding gold as treasure. They'll find stuff... oftentimes useful stuff, but very little gold. As far as advancement goes I haven't found it to be too bad. I mostly just make up the XP rewards for completing adventur...

Re: Purple Planet - how do players learn how to get home?
I would encourage them to try an ally with a Kith tribe. They could figure it out through that. I think something like Purple Planet works best if you try to lay a bit of groundwork into integrating it into your campaign. Personally, I added a whole other race to the world. It began because my PC's ...

Any option for slacker backers?
I totally get it if there isn't, but I ended up having to cancel my pledge partway through the kickstarter on account of an unexpected car repair draining my spending cash. Any way I could still get in on the boxed set or am I waiting on my FLGS?

Bouncing ideas for my Dwimmermount campaign.
So I've been running a Dwimmermount campaign for about a year now. Made the switch to DCC from B/X a couple months ago One of the things I've been doing is trying to introduce antagonists from outside the dungeon as much as the enemies they encounter inside. The idea is that this will give them some...

Re: Firearms and super science laser pistols.
See the issue that I have with expanding the crit range is twofold. First critical hits are frigging nasty in DCC, especially once you get to higher levels I mean there are a fair number of 'target dies' results on the higher end of pretty much all the tables. If you're pulling off crits on a 5+... ...

Firearms and super science laser pistols.
Just wanted to share a system that I've been using to simulate firearms in DCC. One of the issues I've always had with firearms in D&D of any edition is that the weapons of varying tech levels feel very 'samey'... I mean when a flintlock rifle works effectively the same as a crossbow, which work...

Idea for a magic gee-gaw.
So my PC's are about to encounter a their first wizard antagonist and I'm trying to think of some sort of magic item I could give him to spice things up a bit, perhaps even provide a small side quest while they try and figure out how it works. I've been converting Dwimmermount to DCC, and for those ...

Re: Cleric-less Parties: How to keep them alive?
Another thing I do is a houserule with shields. If you are equipped with a shield and and get struck by a critical hit then you can use your shield to protect against it. You still get hit, but you don't suffer the effects of the crit. That said, the blow will smash your shield. Now to be fair I've ...

Re: Cleric-less Parties: How to keep them alive?
I've been running a sword and planet game without clerics for some time now. What I do is this: Characters have a 'healing pool' equal to their Stamina multiplied by their level. With one nights rest they can subtract any number of hitpoints from this pool to recover lost hitpoints on a 1-1 basis. F...

Re: Chapter 13 Press Presents: Tales of the Fallen Empire
do you feel that it would be easy, both setting-wise and rules-wise, to 'translate' adventures for dcc proper into totfe and vice versa? A lot would depend on the adventure I think. Something with a lot of demihumans or even humanoids would be a challenge. A humanocentric adventure would work well,...

Re: Chapter 13 Press Presents: Tales of the Fallen Empire
I'll give it a go. So at it's core Tales From the Fallen Empire (Tales) is a setting book. It introduces a number of additional rules and rule variants to try and simulate a campaign setting with a very strong howardesque sword and sorcery vibe. In doing so it tramples a number of the 'sacred cows' ...

Re: Recruiting for a Tales From the Fallen Empire PbP
As far as posting frequency goes I can probably keep an update schedule of a post pretty much every day, more during combat. In actuality I would probably expect posts every 2-3 days since there is the inevitable waiting for others that will occur. If you go quiet for a bit particularly outside of c...

Hey all, with the recent release (at least to KS backers) of Tales From the Fallen Empire on PDF I figured I'd strike while the iron is hot and see about interest in starting up a PbP game for it. Recruitment is totally open to people who missed the kickstarter but plan on picking up the PDF once it...

Sweet merciful Christ! Tales has the single most awesome (and terrifying) magic item creation rules I've ever seen. Talk about gutpunching the 'magic Christmas tree'. For those who don't have the book yet, basically it involves summoning a demon, and then negotiating/forcing it to bind its life forc...

Re: Varying the types of treasures, beyond just gold
An interesting idea might be to combine Colin's chart with Dave Arneson's gold for XP rules. For those who don't know Arneson used to award XP for gold just like Gygax, but the difference was that any gold you wanted to get XP for had to be 'blown'. I wonder if it might be a bit of an incentive to g...

Re: DCC Pulp Space Adventures
My current campaign has a really strong 'sword and planet' vibe. Draws a lot of inspiration from Barsoom, Planet of Adventure, Dying Earth, Empire of the Petal Throne, Hawkmoon, Bashki's Wizards, Logans World, and old Heavy Metal magazines. Most the weapons stay unchanged. Guns work like normal weap...

The City State of Barasbor.
So I decided that DCC would be the perfect system to run a campaign using a setting that I've had on the back burner for a long time. It's a sword and sorcery/planet mashup where high technology exists along side more familiar fantasty tropes. It's largely inspired by Empire of the Petal Throne, Bar...
