Re: mercurial magic

Couple thoughts: 1. I think the range for "no change" needs to be increased. Currently only 20% of spells have no mercurial effect attached to them. I think this needs to be closer to 50% and I am considering expanding the table for this. I just think the "cool"/weirdness factor...

Re: Another Barbarian (Please Review)

jferngler, you asked me for my opinion, so here it is: I know that we are going to see a Barbarian in Tales of Fallen Empire , and it is natural for gamers to create new classes. I remember the thrill I got when I read my Holmes Basic and discovered the neat classes that were going to appear in AD&...

Does anyone have an extra PC? Perhaps he'd be willing to part with one of them. You could make him roll more zeroes, or you could let him roll a new level one. It's up to you as the judge.

Re: Two questions regarding deeds of arms

You are correct on all counts. You might as well call a deed, since you still get a normal hit. You do get normal damage for a successful hit, including the value for the deed die, and the deed goes off as well. Of course, if your deed is something that wouldn't cause damage, your judge might make a...

A friend of mine had an idea for convention goers that I thought was brilliant. Set up a couple of booth babes at strategic points in the convention. The first one sprays the attendee with febreeze, the second with Axe.

Also remember, she may be capped at lower levels spells, but she can still get a lot of them. A good spell check on a lower level spell still gives really great results. This is a great example of how elves, though they seem to be just a "wizard +", really do turn out different and fairly ...

The player and I both roll. The pc gets the better roll. I'm going soft. I hadn't heard of this method before, but I like it as a compromise over the "pure roll" approach. That's because I made it up on the spot a couple of months ago. I had a zero with one hit point go warrior, and rolle...

The conversion is off a little. 11- is a fail/lose for all spell levels, but 12+ can be a failure with no spell loss for higher level spells.

Re: Disapproval range for clerics

There are a few instances on the disapproval chart that give a different refresh time for disapproval, and a Judge can always decide to make things difficult for a clerics who's really been misbehaving. No sacrifices are needed unless you need to recover immediately.

NPCs using deeds? Absolutely. It might be a good way to demonstrate to recalcitrant warrior players what you mean. Don't go too far, though, especially with the villains. A classic moment in geekdom dismemberment is Darth Vader cutting off Luke Skywalker's hand. When something like that happens, it ...

When I get a high constitution score, I immediately check to see if I'm smart enough to be a marginal wizard. I don't have enough DCC experience, but in most systems I find that it is actually the wizard's hit points, not spell adjustments for intelligence, that determine effectiveness and survivab...

Also, don't forget about Luck scores when you're running masses of low-level characters. When the mindless monster charges, you don't have to figure out the battle map or do anything complicated to figure out who is targeted. Lowest Luck = the target for the monster's attack. When the trap springs ...

I describe it to 3E playersas combat maneuvers, the kind that you get with a feat. For 4E players, I tell them it's like an encounter power, the deed is what it does besides the damage. As far as adjudicating the deeds that are called, I try to incorporate the number on the deed die itself when deci...
